After having open heart surgery, Emily called me for a follow up check. When I reported chest pain, she said “Let me stop you right there. Call your PCP if you want pain meds.” My cardiologist found I had pericarditis and treated me successfully. Emily did not follow up with me after my surgeon retired. A year after my surgery, she left a voice message on activities I should avoid. It would have been helpful to have had this information after my surgery instead of a year later.
