Misdiagnosed and given counterproductive treatment
During my initial evaluation, Eric opined, definitively, that I had not injured my Achilles, as my GP had concluded, but rather my soleus muscle. He said he was able to rule out an Achilles injury by feeling the tendon. He discouraged me from getting an MRI. After performing exercises he prescribed, my ankle was much more sore, swollen, tender and bruised. I then obtained an MRI, which confirmed I had a partial Achilles tear. When I shared the report with Eric, he modified his exercise regimen but did not suggest I see a podiatrist or wear a walking boot, which I later learned is the standard treatment for an Achilles tear.My GP referred me to a podiatrist, whose treatment plan required me to stop all ankle-related exercises Eric prescribed and wear a walking boot for a full month before starting even limited physical therapy and exercise. He told me the exercises Eric had prescribed were counterproductive in that they generated scar tissue.
