As someone who works in healthcare I do my very best to be patient and understanding with day to day changes and the stressful nature of the job. I went in for a yearly GYN physical. I had a concern regarding a palpable breast lump. She addressed my breast lump with stating 'anyone with a BMI of 30, and that’s being conservative in your case, will have cystic breasts.' For reference I am 5'7 215lbs. What was most off putting was that I have a strong family history of breast cancer. Her breast exam was extremely quick and careless, not even asking where the lump was. She did not offer a work up or follow up exam and instead attributed this to my weight. In addition, provided a statistic about 2% of women my age would have breast cancer. I felt very dismissed, which caused me to shut down during the exam. It was not a good experience and I will not trust her with my health again.
