Dr. Gerard Boutin, PHD

I would recommend Dr. Boutin.

This is my 3rd attempt at reviewing Dr. Boutin, who was paramount in my recovery from trauma, from working in a hostile and threatening workplace. My previous reviews have been flagged and, lol, I could be paranoid, but I'm guessing it is being done by the former employee responsible for many of Dr. Boutin's patients. Great Dr, nice guy.

I’m really surprised to see any negative reviews of Dr Boutin. My first visit was simple dialogue. He was very friendly and professional and at the end of the session he seemed to know exactly where I was and what I needed. I would recommend him highly and will continue to see him.

This man will not listen, he will waste your time and will not help at all.

I used to come here as a kid, and he would go on his computer while me and my sibling just sat their to play the wii. The most we would talk is our day, and then it was told to our mom's boyfriend. If we ever asked anything we would get told rude things while he was "busy" during our appointment. We paid to play the wii, and not get help.

My husband passed away on May 10, 2019, and I've been trying to cope with my grief and feelings of emptiness, low self-esteem, depression, and oversensitivity. I've had two visits with Dr. Boutin so far, and I don't plan on coming back for a third. The first session wasn't too bad, but I left the second one feeling worse than before I walked in the door. Dr. Boutin was cold, brash, and arrogant, putting words in my mouth and quizzing me on the meaning of "worthiness" and other cognitive behavioral concepts. If I responded with hesitation, he'd react with "I'm not going to tell you what it is" and "What, did you come up with that number in your head?!" I literally froze. After crying for the rest of the day, I dried my tears and decided that I will never let anyone intimidate me like that again. Life's too short. To add insult to injury, I was charged $160 for a 30-minute session -- I don't think so, not after driving 45 minutes to see this guy.

I was referred to Dr. Butin by Neurologist Mark Rich in reference to a traumatic brain injury. Excellent staff and Dr. Butin was amazing.

I was a patient of Dr Cottrells in the same office. Dr. Boutins receptionist Martha failed to make sure my husband's insurance was accepted and I had forgotten about the appointment. Dr. Boutin called my husband and was not only rude to him but hung up on him. IF YOU'RE DEALING WITH MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE AND THAT'S HOW YOU ACT YOU SHOULDN'T BE PRACTICING.

I arrived a day after the office had been flooded for my first apptmt. Dr. B. talked about his flood for 10 min. I spoke about the suicide in our family for 20. He said, "Well, I guess we're done for today. So you edit med' articles? I'm writing a book; I'll send you a chapter--" End of visit and 20 min' of service w/the pt. No mention of follow-up, but the bill arrived. I disputed the charge of $160.00 to Medicare for the 20 min...and a bill for the $25 co-pay (which I pd).

I had a difficult time convincing teenage son to go to therapy but he liked Dr. Boutin and was excited about his next appointment. Unfortunately, I was unable to schedule a follow up for 8 weeks. During that time, he lost his grandfather and had no therapist to help him process his grief. I recently received a call that the 8 week follow up had to be rescheduled because the doctor is going to the Rose Bowl. Now my son doesn't want to go back to see Dr. Boutin. This is beyond frustrating.

I I would not recommend him. We had to go there for a court ordered evaluation. Even though the report was in my favor, I still wouldn't refer anyone there. I spent months preparing a notebook for my visit and he lost it. Then got mad because I wanted it back. The Secretary found it months later. My ex husbands lawyer chose that practice and my ex didn't like him either. My kids didn't feel comfortable and neither did I. He did not make us want to open up to him. Very cold.

Dr Boutin is wonderful! Very caring staff and truly listens. Recommend him for all ages.

Dr. Boutin has been great for my son. He is very relatable, caring, responsive and professional. Martha, his front office staff is on top of things with scheduling and appointment reminders, which works great for those with busy schedules. Dr. Boutin did a great job of gaining my son's trust and building a rapport with him over a short amount of time. He gave him useful tools to address his issues which my son was able to put into practice immediately. Highly recommend.

been going to dr boutin for a long time....always able to get to see him... spoke with him on the phone when unable to go to his office... w/o his help i do not know where i would be or IF i would be alive i also email him in between appts so he can read how i am and what i am going thru... i have rec others to him as well...and they have all liked and respected him..
