Henry Traurig, MA

I've worked with Henry for several years and he really knows what he's doing. He relates extremely well with you and puts you at ease. And this gives you the confidence to be vulnerable with him, and really dig into the issues that you're dealing with. He has a great sense of humor and is also very insightful. He is very compassionate and truly cares about you. I highly recommend working with Henry!

Henry was therapist for my son for several years. He had solid insight into my son's challenges and amazing compassion for everyone in our family. He never stopped suggesting therapeutic options we could consider. As another reviewer noted, he will suggest alternative therapeutic approaches and standard medical interventions. He draws upon a wealth of ideas and resources which he individualizes for each client. Over the years, Henry made so many recommendations that other practitioners we were utilizing had not considered and consulted with other specialists on my sons behalf. I am deeply indebted to Henry for his wisdom and compassion.

Dr. Henry began to see our son while my husband and I were having marital troubles. My son was having difficulty, as were we all. Dr. Henry made my son feel welcome and comforted within the first session. He helped our son cope with very adult issues in a child appropriate way. He kept my son's confidence and I also felt that he was compassionate towards the entire circumstance my family was going through. It was very reassuring having Dr. Henry help guide my son through such a difficult time. Dr. Henry changed the course of our families life into a more healthy way to grow together.

Henry has been a terrific therapist for my two children, offering them therapy for hardships and advice as they have moved through different chapters of their lives. He is especially effective at engaging kids and teens. And he has provided me with therapy and taught me many resources for parenting my children. I appreciate his work and commitment and recommend him for parents, children, families seeking a great professional to guide them through the big and small events in life.

Henry is wise, compassionate, warm, funny, an amazing listener...and is able to make my recalcitrant and depressed teenage son smile, listen and talk. He's extremely knowledgeable about conventional treatment methods as well as newer, holistic and/or integrative therapies. He's very good at what he does. He's helped our whole family, not just our son, and I've referred him to others who report similar experiences. The info on this site is old; he's now at Southfield Mental Health Associates.

I did not find Mr. Traurig's approach effective. He was able to identify issues, but inconsistently. His follow up was also inconsistent, even when it was very important that he follow up. He seems to have antiquated notions of gender roles. He recommended alternative treatments and pharmaceuticals when they were not the most effective treatment for the issues identified. The office was disorganized and depressing. I would not recommend.
