Dr. Sherman eye health advocate
Patient since early 2000s (family and personal care) Respectful practitioner. Attentive to urgencies. Open to any questions. I find it unusual to meet a doctor interested in visual health beyond prescribing visual aides such as glasses. For example, he might look at vision therapy for strengthening weak coordination between the two eyes. When I was experiencing strange flashing (like a snowfall on a clear night), he immediately referred me to a practice that could address the issues head-on. I make an effort to ask Dr. Sherman to repeat himself if I don't understand something or can't hear his words (tends to drop the end of sentences--or maybe my hearing is weak?). A minor effort compared to how I benefit from his work.

I had a concussion and was still experiencing headaches and nausea while reading after a few weeks. As an academic, this really worried me. Dr. Sherman, recommended to me as an experienced optometrist and vision therapist, heard and respected my questions, responded patiently and in kind with his own, while thoughtfully engaging my concerns with epistemic integrity until they were assuaged. His depth of knowledge, intelligence, and breadth of experience combine with his attentiveness and careful tailoring to each individual case—person, situation, constellation of symptoms—to inspire confidence and trust, as Dr Sherman tailors each thorough examination and vision plan, if needed, in real time, in consultation with the patient, and in his carefully drafted reports that follow. The office environment—warm bubbly staff, informational literature, tasteful decor, ergonomic seating—put one at ease. I highly recommend Dr Sherman. I’ll be back there with my daughter—for sure!

Dr. Sherman is warm, professional, and thorough. I have used him as my primary "eye doctor" for many, many years. He also provides glasses for my husband, and when they were dependents, for our kids (now grown) as well. He spends a lot of time explaining exams and the results of the exams. The downside of this attentiveness is that he is often behind schedule, but not terribly so.

The glasses I purchased were ill fitting and the doctor did not take my concerns seriously. I was so unhappy that I decided to go elsewhere and just purchase a whole new pair . I was willing to bear the extra expense because I could not wear the glasses the way he adjusted them. The new place I went to was able to fix them without charging me a penny. I do not understand why Dr.Sherman could not do this. The office was messy and he never wore gloves during treatment nor did I see him sterilize.
