I saw Janie several years ago when I was in an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship. Instead of working with me to try to see the light (when I was actually starting to begin to come around in small ways) or understanding that it takes many abused women MULTIPLE attempts to leave their abuser before it sticks, Janie berated and raised her voice at me for 10-15 minutes for being in this situation. She victim blamed me, disregarded my pre-existing abandonment issues (I was later diagnosed with PTSD), and everything else and instead of being helpful or even asking thought-provoking questions, she treated me like I deserved to be abused. I sat in silence for the remainder of the session because she wouldn’t let me speak for the 10-15 minutes she was busy raising her voice at me and berating me, and by the time she was done, I didn’t trust her anymore and had nothing left to stay. It took me a couple of weeks to call her office to cancel my upcoming appointment, to ask to cease being a patient, and they asked what happened and I told them, but looks like she is still there. She behaved incredibly unprofessionally, and I hope that never happens to anyone else. I don’t have a problem with an honest counselor, but what she did was wrong on so many levels. Thankful to have been with a counselor at Legacy now who is ACTUALLY trauma-informed, is direct and honest, but is not unprofessional.

Cold. Unprepared for my appointment. Repeatedly called me by the wrong name. Rolled her eyes at me when I addressed that she didn't have any recollection of our prior visit (only two weeks prior) or idea of why I was sitting in her office.
