Jared Smiley, LPC

I wanted to like Jared, but his whole schtik is something of an act. I went to see him when I was very depressed. It was clear that he wasn't interested in seeing me as a patient. He certainly didn't seem to understand my issues, but he made no effort to do so either, often belittling me. This was done perhaps so that I would not return. The whole "existential psychotherapist" thing is a bit of a gimmick as well. To my knowledge, usage of that term isn't regulated. He even admitted during a session that he had read a single book on the topic. As novel as Jared's practice may seem from his website, it frankly is too good to be true. Atlanta has excellent cognitive behavioral therapists. From the dynamic side, Emory has a psychoanalytic institute. I would encourage you to work from those two ends.
