Dismissive
Rude and very dismissive and made us feel like we were not worth her time. Was not caring or inquiring. She is not in the correct occupation for her personality.

Very negative experience
My son sees many doctors and the experience with this NP was one of our most negative experiences. We waited for months to have an appointment with her for the treatment of ingrown toenails. Instead of doing the procedure, she blamed my son for picking his toenails and that he just needed to stop. I explained to her that he is disabled and that the picking would not stop yet she persisted and suggested that I would not want to do a procedure that would just cause him more pain, which was in my opinion a little manipulative. Of course, I would not want him to have more pain and yet now I am dealing with WAY more pain as he didn't get the treatment for his ingrown toenails when we had first asked for it. (This review was posted about two years after we had this experience. I am writing this review because we had been sent to her to take care of it and two years later we are still dealing with the impact of her bedside manner.)

Should not be working with kids.
I took my son in for an appointment at radys childrens hospital orthopedics department. As soon as she walked into the room she appeared cold and condescending.she already had her mind set on not preforming the procedure that day and made sure to take advantage of my sons disability and convince him that he doesn't need the procedure done and to pressure him into agreeing. She should most definitely not be working closely with children let alone kids with autism. Thanks to her my son may not be able to get the procedure done that we have been waiting 6 months for. I'm appalled that rady's would employee such a person. If you want to have a pleasant experience at rafys orthopedics I don't recommend seeing her.

My husband and I brought our 10 year old daughter to see an Orthopedic Specialist at Rady Children’s Specialists in Escondido, Ca for a metacarpal fracture. We saw Kathryn Abare, NP. She was cold, rude and had the worst bedside manner I’ve ever experienced at a children’s specialist. I’m not sure if it’s arrogance or just a general dislike to questions but her answers are defensive and condescending. She comes across abrasive, uncaring and detached. After reading other reviews, I realize I’m not alone in my assessment. She’s been this way for years!! It’s a shame she’s been allowed to continue this behavior. Thankfully, the front staff, medical assistant and cast technician were helpful, kind and patient.

She remembered my 13 year-old son a year after his initial test, which we appreciated. We (my son and I) both understood what her descriptions about what was going on, his condition and options. She has high energy, but is still down-to earth. It was a good 2nd visit.
