I was very apprehensive coming into this but my doctor suggested that I have some psychotherapy as I started really going through a difficult time in life and wasn't adjusting very well to changes. She made me feel at ease and I had no trouble opening up which I was very hesitant about. She asked thought provoking questions to help better understand how certain beliefs about my anxiety was actually causing me to not work through it, I learned how avoiding certain things that make me anxious was reinforcing the anxiety and making it worse. I learned relaxation techniques and began to do some exposure therapy while keeping a journal to follow up with her on my experiences. I have really come a long way very thankful I stayed with it long enough to see the benefits, 8 sessions, and now I continue bimonthly as needed.

I felt she listened and really heard and understood me. She provided helpful feedback. I have pretty severe social anxiety and I felt very relaxed that she understood me so well I was really able to be very open.

My daughter (C) went to Lisa twice for anxiety, which runs in my husband's family. My daughter didn't want to go back after the first visit, but I insisted... I should have listened to her. After the second visit, she told me that Ms. Beverage had done most of the talking and said that she thought much of my daughter's anxiety stemmed from being homeschooled. She said that if C. was in school, much of her anxiety would go away. Really? Kids in middle school don't have any anxiety? Does she really believe kids in school dealing with grades, tests, social groups, bullying, etc. have less stress than kids who are home with a loving parent and siblings? All of my older kids did end up in public school, but this only increased their stress. Ms. Beverage should spend more time listening and less time talking. And she should get her facts about homeschooling straight before she gives ridiculous advice.
