Mistreated for hamstring strain - inexperienced
Matthew was treating me for an alleged hamstring strain, which turned out to be a DVT and 2 PEs (4 blood clots in my right leg, which had broken off and gone to both lungs). While seeing him for PT, I was indifferent because he didn’t really try to engage in conversation with me for the 3 sessions and look at his iPad. His assessment was that I developed a hamstring strain because I had “weak hips” and was “carrying extra load” during the pandemic (I gained weight only 10lbs and weighed 150lbs). I kept saying there wasn’t any pain like standard hamstring strain, and I was experiencing an extreme tightness. A few weeks after our last PT session, I messaged him after I started to feel pain, soreness, swelling, for the first time after a 7.5 hour car trip. I was told it didn’t sound serious and give it a few days. He checked back in, and I told him I was in St. Mary’s ER for a DVT & PEs. His response “oh wow glad you caught it. Weird you got a blood clot, since you were active.”
