Dr. Leggett now operates out of Tennessee, but this was the only place I could find to leave an online review. She is very kind, but, increasingly over the year and half I saw her for marriage counseling, I noticed her making excuses for my spouse’s concerning behavior instead of attempting to assist me in holding him accountable. My spouse has done significant damage to our marriage over decades, and she was more concerned with me maintaining sympathy for his childhood trauma than she was with helping fix the trauma he’s inflicted on me. She would cut me off in the middle of speaking to bring up an analogy, many times based in her personal life or other clients’ lives, that didn’t always line up with what I was experiencing. I felt shut down often, rarely ever reaching the true roots of the issues. My final straw was when I needed to discuss my spouse’s frequent gaslighting (toward both myself and my children), and her response was that she “didn’t see gaslighting as a real issue unless it was concerning physical abuse.” I knew enough then to RUN.
