Saw her for several months during a series of personal and family traumas. She minimized my experiences, including the years of abuse I experienced in my marriage. Instead of helping me figure a way out of my situation, she told me I needed to be careful about seeing my situation through “the lens of a victim of domestic abuse.” I told her about the physical and psychological suffering of me and my children, and she recommended couples’ counseling. I’m finally free, but with no thanks to her.
