Dr Halpert is terrible therapist. I feel traumatized by having been his client. I saw him many years ago, back in 2012-2013. Maybe he's improved now. But he's awkward and stern and judgemental. It's really odd that someone like him is a therapist. I was pretty young back then, early-mid twenties, and I had no clue at the time how toxic he was. It also has to do with the outdated talk therapy style. I don't understand why the field still thinks talk therapy is effective. After seeing Dr Halpert, I've seen one therapist for several years in the Internal Family Systems method and I've recently started seeing a somatic experiencing therapist. Both have helped me in tremendous ways I did not think possible. I think Dr Halpert should acquire additional training on how to help people experiencing trauma and PTSD.

Dr. Halpert is not a very skilled nor a very effective therapist, and he should NOT be trusted with treating clients with complex issues (such as severe depression, trauma, existential crises, or interpersonal or relationship issues). However, it has been multiple years since he has been my therapist, but he has also been my therapist for multiple years, and I can easily imagine him doing therapy in the same way that he only knows how to. One of the consequences of seeing him is that a toxic relationship I was in escalated to the point where I ended up harming myself; as a result, I now live with constant physical pain. I cannot forgive him for not understanding the severity of the situation. To be fair, he is not uncaring nor unfriendly and is sometimes helpful, but he had just provided too little aid and guidance, was too reliant on CBT, and was just too out of touch to get my issues. I suffered for years without getting the help I needed; other therapists I had were so much better.
