She approaches with an inviting tone, and ear, but that is only to get you to talk. Once you start talking, she will twist words and use them. She was admonished in my case for overstepping her authority. In addition, she worked with a therapist named Jessica St. Claire who has since stepped away from working. Sue will charge you, and claim you and your family need more time. Please look her up, and see all the newest Newsbreak articles going out about her and her peers before using her for any therapy.

Dr. Tonkins has been an amazing blessing to my son’s life. I could not be more thankful for everything she has done for him. She is wonderful with helping parent and child overcome extreme hardships and adversities. I honestly do not know what I would have done without her. She works very closely with a group of top professionals who communicate together in order to achieve the best possible outcome. She is the doctor to go to if you want your child(ren) to have the best possible care available.

Sue is amazing with my daughter. I like that she is focused on my daughter's needs and not the parents needs. I am so grateful that she is reuniting me with my daughter.

Horrible & unprofessional.

I reviewed before about in my reunification therapy she ruined my family. But then i see reviews everywhere how she got violent with a girl who had depression, someone else who she wouldn't even answer their calls, seen reviews on how she ruined other peoples families and the only "good" reviews i've seen are about 3 words long and say "she's great!" or "go to her". If i find a good therapist i leave the best review i possibly can so that someone else will go to them and have them in their life to help. I believe Sue or someone else is writing their own reviews for her to look better.

Please stay away. Tonkins has an over the top sweetness that is not genuine. She herself is overly medicated and pushes for all parties involved to be medicated too. She doesn’t care what happens to the children involved in her cases. Find others who have been affected by her and her team through social media before you get involved. She will make recommendation for you to see her professional friends (Amy Stark, Dudley Wiest, Eugene Wong, Rose Pitt, Al Liberman, etc) who aren’t at all helpful but are expensive and help her control her narrative of your case, especially when you are court ordered. Once you enter services by these additional professionals, there is no way to get out of it. And her dumb dogs are a nuisance. At $250/hr, she will ruin your life and your trust in humanity.

Dr. Tonkins was under court order to facilitate reunification therapy. Due to her lack of organizational skills and professionalism, she was unable to follow the courts orders. Sessions were being interrupted by her dogs barking or her children playing. She made claims that she’s fully “transparent”, but would scoff or claim “you are being argumentative” if you asked for clarification. Dr. Tonkins at the outset put forth treatment plans both verbally and in written form, but failed to follow her own treatment plan. The reason given for her deviation from the plan was because, “children we’re involved”. I found this statement of hers disingenuous and perplexing because after months of her involvement she failed to even meet with or assess the children involved. It became very apparent that complying with the judge’s orders for reunification were somewhat of a distant concern for her. I’m sorry that she couldn’t put the children’s interests in front of her own biases.

She was so helpful for my son. I am planning to have my other son see her.

Emails and phone calls are not returned. Even asking to confirm if she is taking new patients. She has ignored all forms of communication. That’s not how I envision a person who wants to help people to be.
