Dr. Summer Lara, OD

Dr. Lara was OUTSTANDING. She promptly diagnosed a serious medical problem for me, helped consult and coordinate my care in the ER later on, and consistently followed up with me to check in and provide critical referrals. Strongly recommend, she truly went above and beyond!

I went to see Dr. Lara about an eye infection that I caught from my husband. He had been to a different Boulder Eye Surgeon doctor (Dr. Kirshenbaum) the week before and she treated him with a Betadine eye wash which, while somewhat painful, was successful in treating the eye infection within a couple of days. Dr. K told us that if I got the infection, that Boulder Eye Surgeons would treat it since I was due to go on vacation. I explained all of this to Dr. Lara and she told me, 'We can't do that here'. She went on to tell me that I had a virus that could potentially take two weeks to go away. I was sent on my way after a 6-7 minute interface. I then called my own eye dr. who saw me right away, looked at my eyes, gave me two different prescriptions, antibiotic and steroid, and within 3 days my eyes were much better, less swollen, no mucus, and I was able to get on a plane to my vacation. I hope some of the other doctors there are more knowledgeable.

Dr. Lara did not read prior notes on chart and has caused months of pain and anguish. The front office staff was also less than helpful. They gave us incorrect information and promised follow-ups that did not happen. This practice seems to have grown too fast and is unfortunately, overworked and less patient and responsive than in years past. I don't want to start looking for another practice but probably will. After all, being threatened by office staff for just wanting the same quality of eyecare we've had in years past is disappointing and shocking. I understand the pandemic has been tough, but if you don't want to do your job - there are plenty other positions that might bring you more joy. Good health and luck to you all, but I won't be back unfortunately.

1/5/2021 Dr Lara told me I had a permanent floater and my brain eye would learn to see around it. 4/28/22 I'm told by another doctor in another practice I have a fungus that is causing the eye to bleed, thus the blind spot. I'll need injections to stabalize. It probably have been better if treated a year ago.

I have had the extreme pleasure of being seen by Dr Lara several times over the last two years. The care and concern she provided was as high as I've ever received from any doctor. Cannot recommend highly enough. Also, the eye prescriptions resulted in the best vision I've had in since I wore contacts many years ago. Thank you Dr Lara!

The most caring and compassionate eye doctor I've ever seen. She was amazing. Did a checkup for me, and saw my mother for an emergency. Both times she was incredible.
