Candid and helpful
I wanted someone who understood the benefits of nutrition and didn’t automatically reach for the prescription pad. When I read the negative reviews complaining about how she wants her patients to change their diets to improve their health, I knew I wanted her as my doctor. I have been to her several times, and have appreciated her candid opinions and useful lifestyle changes. Her recommendations require work, but she has kept me off medication.

Would not recommend
I saw Sylvia Kwon twice this last year and I did not get a good vibe from the get go. She was pretty condescending and was hyper fixated on my diet versus the problems I was actually there to discuss with her. I have switched PCPs and am much happier now.

Tunnel Vision, On Auto Pilot
Starting with her grand pointing gesture up and down my body, saying "you did this to yourself, now you have to work to undo it," Sylvia Kwon, who swore she never did/said that (but we both know she did), seems too obsessed with weight and nutrition, yet uninterested in what is causing these types of issues, or how progress IS being made. Since my first visit with Ms. Kwon, my A1C has dropped from 11 to 6. That seems less important, however, than her mantra of a "high fiber, good fat" diet. I've had to basically tune her out and do my own work to understand a diabetic diet. I am proud of the work I've done, and am thrilled I feel better. Emotionally, though, just the thought of another interaction with her fills me with despair and makes me feel hopeless. As I told her, I need help, not prejudice.

No Care in Healthcare with Sylvia
Not only was she disrespectful to me and my mother, but 2/4 times I saw her she had no idea who I was or why I was there. Even though she was the one who scheduled appointments to see me. Very rude, pushy with her opinions, talked down to me as if I was a child and even canceled my refills on heart medication which she told me I needed in the first place. I do NOT recommend ANYONE see her for healthcare. Happy to say I've found a new healthcare provider and am very happy I switched from this excuse of a professional.

Very happy patient!
My former Doc retired and TMC assigned me to Sylvia Kwon. My first visit with her went very well and I feel she was attentive, not rushed, and very knowlegable. I'm happy with my new Doc!

When going in after changing doctors, she immediately was concerned about my nutrition and put me on a rice and fish only diet ,(explicitly saying how gluten is horrible and to stop all carb eating) putting me on intermediate fasting as well as "stop binge eating", as if this is something in my control. She also tried to take me off medication for my ADHD, claiming that keto diet are able to cure it, as well as cure Schizophrenia and Autism. She spoke down to me like I was a child who didnt understand how my body worked, and had little regard for my mental illness that I've been suffering over a decade for saying it was only cause of my weight gain of the past 3 years. She only confirmed to my mother who was present that my mental illnesses are made up and that I need no medication for, and got agressive when I told her firmly I do have chronic depression. She didnt ask about my mental health and how ot could effect my weight, only to do this extreme keto like diet. I do NOT recommend

I will be looking for a new healthcare provider after seeing Sylvia four or five times. She canceled a prescription on me without telling me she would be doing this. I need this medication. No, it is not a narcotic. Other issues are too long and private to go into.

Sylvia provided outrageously bogus nutrition advice to my husband. Sylvia, please, I beg of you, if you want nutrition advice for a patient, send them to a Registered Dietitian! You are spreading not only misinformation, but downright harmful information; “Don’t wear sunscreen or else you’ll be vitamin D deficient.” She has a complete lack of regard for someone’s financial situation, recommending all sorts of unnecessary supplements and that we shop only at Costco and Whole Foods and avoid Sprouts. (What? Why?) Her written instructions are very aggressive with lots of bold, underline, and exclamation points. She states “Avoid binge eating” as if that’s generally something one is in control of (clear lack of understanding of eating in an emotional context.) I would love to see the credible and extensive research backing your recommendations. It sounds like you took every fad diet headline you heard and made a handout that encourages disordered eating. Very disappointing treatment.
