Wonderful clinician. Dr. Mates was recommended by child development clinicians at UNC School of Medicine. He is attentive and engaged with parents and patients. He quickly pinpointed the learning issues in our child and made very practical and doable recommendations. He is top notch.

In my experience, this man was not only ineffective, but also misogynistic, arrogant, and out-of-touch. He came highly recommended and was an enormous disappointment for the acute needs of my son. I found him to be highly sensitive to feedback that he felt was critical of himself. Also, as he was often on vacation, I have the sense that he has lost the spark to really look and listen to his patients; he is resting on the laurels of his reputation, putting the time in until retirement.

Dr Mates and his staff have been a life saver for myself and my family. He is thoughtful, kind, and very experienced. His staff is wonderful. He is available and takes time to return calls as well as provide his cell for emergency contacts.

After more than 10 times 150$ not only our child is not doing better but under his 'counseling' he commited a couple of offenses. We originally went to saw him using the name given by our Doctor so he could assess what kind of medication he could get. Not only he refused to prescribed any advice to our regular doctor.. but keep on asking for more visit. Nice way to charge 150$ more. Also this 'Doctor' for those past 5 months has been more on holidays than at his office!
