Wrong Diagnosis
Mid-April I was on a walk and misjudged a curb, fell, and hurt my lower leg. The next day I went to urgent care and saw William Seibt because I thought I hurt my Achilles tendon. At that appointment I was told my Achilles tendon was fine and intact (I have MyChart app with all this info), and was told I sprained my ankle and given a strap-lace up brace. After 3 weeks, I wasn’t getting any better and was in lots of pain, so I went to urgent care. This doctor diagnosed me with a possible Achilles tendon rupture, referred me to an orthopedic specialist, and sent me for an ultrasound for a blood clot (thankfully negative). A week later I saw the orthopedic specialist, and because of the initial misdiagnosis it limited me treatment options. I ended up having surgery 2 days later because that really became the only option. I asked my orthopedist how it was missed and he said he had no idea and that it’s actually a very simple diagnosis.
