Biography: "You cant go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." - CS Lewis My name is Rachel Lefkowitz and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Michigan (LMSW). I have been practicing for nearly 10 years and have experience in an array of clinical settings, including: behavioral/mental health, care management, addiction, crisis management, child and family counseling, and medical care management. In my approach to counseling, the client is the expert; he or she knows themselves better than anyone else. Often times, cognitive distortions may result in flawed beliefs about ourselves and others, which in turn may spiral into self-destructive behaviors and thoughts . Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I am able to help clients discover patterns of thinking and behavior that are rooted in unhealthy views of self, others, and the world around them. Together, we begin to challenge those beliefs, and reframe our thinking in order to live a healthier, more meaningful, and more intentional life. As an empathic, compassionate, and committed professional, I provide a non-judgmental environment where you can be your authentic self. It is my goal to help you find strategies to cope with life challenges as they arise so that you can live a happier, more fulfilling life.

Biography: Hello, and welcome! My name is Samantha Hughes, and I am a Professional Counselor licensed in the State of Michigan. I have over 5 years of experience working as a therapist. During that time, I have worked a variety of individuals, and helped them through a wide range of issues. My therapeutic approach is one of walking beside you on your journey of self discovery, growth, understanding, and breakthroughs. 1) We will dive deep into your history and figure out what got you where you are now, and where you would like to be instead. 2) We will discuss what it takes to get you where you want to be, by setting and tracking therapeutic goals. 3) We will work through each of those goals together, all while handling the thoughts, emotions, fears and wins that come up for you throughout the process. Other therapy information: I strive to empower my clients to make progress and growth in their lives through the therapeutic counseling process. You will be in the drivers' seat the entire way, with me in the passenger seat, navigating. In this way, we will work towards goals that YOU set, and with a plan that YOU feel will be most helpful in your situation. I would describe my therapeutic style as sensitive, caring, and empathetic. I am thoughtful, respectful, and I believe that you are the expert in your own life - you live in it, after all! I approach therapy from a Strengths Based perspective, which means that I actively look for and draw out the things that others are good at -- things that I will I lovingly refer to as your "superpowers". This means that instead of constantly looking for flaws, we find and celebrate where you are already doing well, and build upon those areas to ultimately help you achieve your goals. No matter what you are struggling with, it is important that you know you are not alone in this journey. I will be here for you every step of the way. As a therapist I value: -a safe and encouraging atmosphere -finding strengths in others, and solutions to problems -the healing power of the therapeutic relationship -unconditional positive regard for the client I offer live sessions, as well as asynchronous messaging throughout the week. Messaging mirrors collaborative journaling, a well-researched process known to encourage mindfulness, self-reflection, and healing. The act of writing things down presents a powerful medium through which intuition speaks and insight emerges. It allows clients to own their feelings, reflect upon their situation, AND still connect with an expert. Plus, you can send me a message anytime! Biography: I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). I have been a practicing Social Worker since 1973. and have worked in various fields over the years; Welfare, Substance Abuse, Clinical settings, and even in prisons. I have developed clinical programs, have been a fund raiser and a Community Liaison. Over the past 8 years, I have been in Private Practice. I live in the Greater Grand Rapids area where I have resided since 1984. My approach to therapy is based on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, REBT. Our actions and feelings are based on our thoughts about ourselves and situations. As an example, people don't make us angry or sad or hurt. We make ourselves feel this way because of what we are thinking about the situation. I work with people's thoughts and help them identify negative thoughts. These negative thoughts can be challenged and changed. This is effective in reducing anxiety, depression, and fear. It is a very interactive approach and one that produces results. I also use humor as a therapy technique. If we cannot laugh at situations or even ourselves, then we are overcome by sadness and depression. These techniques are suitable for many different issues and problems. They are designed to be short term treatments. The usual length of therapy is 3 to 12 months. Rarely does therapy go beyond a year. I prefer to talk clients via telephone or televideo. These are, in my opinion, more effective than email responses. I will do email, but I would prefer not to do therapy this way. Just thought you should know. My sessions are sometimes serious and sometimes fun. I look forward to working with you.

Care Philosophy: Talkspace partners with care providers who find satisfaction in providing therapy in a way that prioritizes the client's convenience and preferences. Because all therapy takes place virtually, through messaging, live virtual sessions, or both, providers can communicate more frequently and casually in comparison to traditional face-to-face therapy. Talkspace treatment methods are supported by scientific research and are committed to non-judgmental care that is inclusive and respectful of cultural and other identities. Talkspace patients are matched with the best provider for them based on their needs and availability during the registration process. Once matched with a provider, patients may change at any time, and may contact support to request a specific provider. *The above is attributed to Talkspace and not the provider.*

Biography: "There isno such thing as autonomy. There is only a distinction between responsible and irresponsible dependence." Wendell Berry There's an idea of therapy that pictures it as a purely self-empowered place, a place that inspires you to take control of your life and be who you really are. But life itself is rarely this way. We need people to support us. It's not about picking ourselves up by our bootstraps. If the people around us are grieving, we are grieving. If we are in pain, those nearest to us are in pain. We depend on others; they depend on us. I approach therapy as a relationship where we will discover how the story of those you are connected to (and those who may have left), have impacted you and your life. The goal is not to just make you "be yourself," but for you to feel reintegration in the present. To feel a healthy dependence with others. With this understanding, we can move forward to structure our lives building heathier habits, new ways of thinking, and strengthening our rhythms in relationships.
