Biography: I have been counseling in the mental health field for 37 years. I utilize my training as a registered art therapist to put creativity (both my own, and my client's) to work in problem solving and gaining different perspectives on the unique difficulties he or she may be dealing with . Depression, anxiety, feeling unloved or unappreciated, feelings of anger, resentment, guilt, sorrow..,,,poor coping skills as a result of unacknowledged traumaall these things and many more can be healed. I strive for my clients to gain hope and optimism during the first session. My approach is warm and humanistic; I use humor and compassion freely, and have come to believe that both of these qualities are essential for personal growth, healing and resilience. I am influenced by Jungian theory, as well as Native American spirituality. Both of these life outlooks consider balance, respect of differences, and gratitude as important to a happy life. In addition, neither of these traditions shy away from facing the darker sides of our personalities, recognizing that denial only keeps a person stuck, ..while allowing the light of awareness to illuminate our dark sides can bring the reward of greater self-knowledge, personal growth and authentic living. I may ask you to have markers and paper nearby at times, to help symbolize a problem or relationship, express feelings, or create a 'map' of a situation or problem. Please embrace this idea with an open mind, as no talent whatsoever is required to make marks on paper. I look forward to assisting you on your path of loving yourself and others more, releasing pain, seeing more reasons for laughter and gratitude, and healing old wounds whose time has come to be healed.

Biography: My approach to therapy follows a simple format delivered with the utmost respect and enthusiasm. I must earn your trust. This is supposed to help you. My communication style is generally void of jargon, tired sayings or "psychobabble". Initially some mutual understanding of the problem must be established. Definition fosters clarity; clarity strengthens meaning; meaning empowers solutions. The goal is for both of us to understand more fully just what it is about your situation that makes it a problem. For many this discussion alone brings a bit of relief. It feels good to be heard and understood. Secrets, however, about your life , about you, about what you think, must remain secrets to the extent that you are more comfortable with them being your secrets. I will not venture there. You will learn that somethings are irrevocably secrets and nobody can ever know. I will teach you how to protect those secrets, and their effects, and only you will decide, and under what circumstances, which secrets, if any, you will ever release, including to me. Next is the process of generating effective solutions. Some will discover that the hard work of therapy begins here. One starts to seriously consider what they must do to ameliorate that problem that we began to understand earlier. Then we choose our course of action. This is difficult. I will help you. We will make a plan. We execute the plan. Did it help? Yes, then what do we do next? No, then we decide which previous step we need to refine. There may have been a problem we failed to identify sooner. We have learned something important though. I keep in mind the expense required of you. I will go month to month with the goal of setting you up for success in your life in one to two months if possible. There will be an amount of work you will do. The beneficial effects of this work you will soon know. The techniques used are time honored and supported by research and experience. There is a vast amount of resources to explore. Or we make new ones. I received my education from the University of Texas at Austin and was awarded Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 1986. I spent over 20 years in an in-patient facility in Texas as an Associate Clinical Psychologist. I have served as therapist to individuals from diverse backgrounds and with unique challenges. Some of the people I have worked with, in an alliance to make their lives at the very least tolerable, are among the coolest and most admirable humans I have ever known. I owe them a lot for the skills I bring here.

Biography: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas and have been in the field for 10+ years. I have never failed to be fascinated with people, with their stories, and with their ability to overcome their circumstances and find the peace they desire. I was an art teacher in high school for many years. That opportunity presented me with experience in learning about the heart of a young person. I worked in several churches as a mentor and learned the need for skills people lacked in order to overcome their past and move forward into a healthy life. As a counselor, I saw the amazing struggles that people are grappling with as they tried to tackle each day. I believe that a counselor can be the helper who will walk along side of a person on their journey to healing. I completed my Masters in counseling at the Houston Graduate School of Theology, then went on to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to complete a Ph.D. I have also extended my studies to include many techniques for working with trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, grief, disassociation, depression, OCD, transition issues, and anxiety. I have been involved with many survivors of childhood abuse, those struggling with life issues in their relationships, their workplace, and in society in general. Fear, anger, and frustration are often crippling to a healthy, productive life. I like to work with people in a person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and in dialectic behavioral therapy. These therapies all offer a gentle and caring approach. They will allow you to be open in a safe environment and the ability to explore what will best work for you, the individual. I consider the people I've talked with and walked with in this journey of life to be among the strongest people on earth. They are willing to step out of their problems and seek a better, healthier life. It's hard work, but it is worth it.
