UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute

I liked Dr. Mitul Mehta. He is very knowledgeable and thorough and the staff is kind and efficient, but BEWARE!! IF YOU GO IN FOR AN EYE EXAM YOU WILL BE BILLED AS AN OUTPATIENT HOSPITAL VISIT I had the same experience as Lori G. I went in for an eye exam and received a bill for $984 five months later ( and this is just the hospital portion of my bill, I am still waiting for the Doctors bill of approx. $1200) . I assumed that my insurance took care of the entire bill as I had called both my insurance and the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute to make sure the Doctor was in network so I would not get a surprise bill. No one bothered to mention that they would bill my insurance as an outpatient hospital service which is only covered at 70% after deductible which means I have to pay the total amount out of pocket. DO NOT GO HERE unless you need surgery. If you need to go in for an eye exam go elsewhere.
