Care Philosophy: Dr Chung's laboratory was among the first to recognize the importance of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the etiology of certain HNC as seen in one of the four subtypes in our molecular characterization study. Specifically the research showed that the most significantly deregulated genes in the HPV-positive tumors are cell cycle regulators. These data provided evidence that HPV-positive tumors may be more sensitive to chemotherapy and molecular inhibitors that specifically target cell cycle. In addition, her research findings contributed to establish the prognostic implication of the HPV status. Patients with HPV-positive HNC have a better prognosis compared to patients with HPV-negative HNC.

Biography: Dr. Tracey O'Connor in an Associate Member in the Department of Breast Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. O'Connor received her MD degree from The State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biological Sciences. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center, followed by a Medical Oncology Fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, New York. Dr. O'Connor's most recent appointment was as Associate Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Clinical Associate Professor at The State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. O'Connor's clinical interests focus on the care of breast cancer patients. Her research interests are centered around predicting and understanding the toxicity of therapies and developing strategies to mitigate side effects, particularly in improving the tolerability of treatment for older breast cancer patients.

Biography: Dr. Grogan received his PhD in Pharmacology and MD from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He then completed a Radiation Oncology Fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida. Dr Silverman joins us from GenesisCare, Sarasota, Florida where he has worked as a Radiation Oncologist since 1998. Dr Silverman's clinical and research interest is palliative radiotherapy with a focus on the treatment of bone metastases.

Dr Han received her medical degree from Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea. Biography: Dr. Satish Mahara is a Clinical Assistant Member in the Department of Satellite and Community Oncology. Dr. Maharaj received his MD degree from the University of the West Indies. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at University of Florida Health, Jacksonville. He then completed a Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at the University of Louisville, Brown Cancer Center, Kentucky. Dr. Maharaj joins us from Texas Tech University, Paul L Foster School of Medicine, where he was an Assistant Professor and attending physician in Hematology and Oncology at the University Medical Center, El Paso. Dr. Maharaj's clinical focus is on the treatment of gastrointestinal and head and neck cancers, including oral cavity, oropharyngeal, esophageal, gastric, colorectal, liver, pancreatic, and anal cancers. His research focuses on investigating the use of various biomarkers to better classify, treat and monitor cancer and the potential adverse effects of therapy.

Dr Khushalani's clinical interest is the development of novel therapeutics for people diagnosed with melanoma and other skin cancers. He is greatly interested in the treatment of uveal melanoma, and melanoma that has metastasized to the brain. Dr Khushalani is interested in research on angiogenesis in melanoma and the translation of findings into clinical therapeutics.He is studying the economic impact of new melanoma drugs on healthcare (pharmacoeconomics) with an aim to devise strategies to reduce cost.Dr Khushalani earned his MD from Topiwala National Medical College, University of Bombay, in Maharashtra, India.
