Biography: Jeffrey Kern is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Weill Cornell campus of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is a assistant attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital as well.Dr. Kern performs a variety of non-invasive tests, including exercise stress tests, tilt-table tests, stress electrocardiography, holter monitoring and echocardiography. He sees patients at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital & NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens in Flushing.Dr. Kern completed his undergraduate degree at Yeshiva University and his medical degree at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. After completing a residency in General Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, Dr. Kern completed further training in pediatric cardiology at the Babies and Children's Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian where he completed a fellowship.In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kern has published extensively on a variety of topics, including early results and developmental outcomes after surgical repair of hypoplastic left heart syndrome, arrhythmias and their management in the setting of congenital heart disease, and fetal echocardiography and its impact on modern pediatric cardiology.

Biography: I care for children and adolescents who are born with or acquire heart disease, as well as pregnant mothers carrying fetuses who are suspected to have heart disease. My focus is diagnosing heart conditions by interpreting images of the heart, either by ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), prenatally and through adolescence. I was drawn to pediatric cardiology early in my training, when I had the opportunity to care for children with heart disease. I quickly grew passionate about caring for these children and learning to manage the complex varieties of heart conditions. I feel a strong responsibility for keeping kids safe and as healthy as they can be. What I like most about my job is working closely with my patients and their families. It is especially rewarding, as a fetal cardiologist, to meet the parents of my patients before they are born, and to build a strong collaboration that continues after birth and through childhood.In addition, I love to teach students and pediatricians-in-training so that they can gain the knowledge and experience they need to care for their patients. I also take part in research that focuses on assessing outcomes in children with different types of heart disease so that we can improve the quality and safety of care that our team provides. I am fortunate to be part of such an exceptional group at Columbia where our team of heart specialists, in partnership with our colleagues in other pediatric specialties, works tirelessly and compassionately to deliver the best care to our patients.

Biography: Dr. Michael Monaco is a board certified pediatric cardiologist. He received his bachelor of arts in biology at Siena College in New York and was elected to the Alpha Kappa Alpha honor society. He was also a four year starter on the lacrosse team. He was awarded his medical degree from Albany Medical College where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Monaco completed his residency in pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital including a year as Chief Resident. He went on to complete his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York, where he was Chief Fellow. As assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian, Dr. Monaco has mentored many medical students, residents and cardiology fellows. His practice is dedicated to non-invasiove cardiac imaging, fetal cardiology and the care of children with congenital heart disease. His other specialties include transesophageal echocardiography, exercise cardiology and 3D imaging. Dr. Monaco has authored several academic articles and delivered various lectures and presentations in the area and around the country.

Biography: Dr. Manoj Chhabra, MD, BS, MBBS is a Doctor primarily located in Brooklyn, NY, with another office in Brooklyn, NY. He has 31 years of experience. Care Philosophy: Dr. Maria Thanjan is the Director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at New York Hospital Queens. She has a particular interest in pediatric echocardiography and cardiac imaging. Dr. Thanjan also specializes in fetal echocardiography allowing her to make the diagnosis of congenital heart lesions prenatally.She feels that it is her goal as a pediatric cardiologist to empower families and patients to make the best most educated decisions in the management of their condition.

Biography: Julie Glickstein is a Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center. She completed her residency and fellowship in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology at NYU Medical Center. In 2001, she came to Columbia University Medical Center and joined the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Her clinical and research interests are in Fetal and Pediatric Echocardiography. She has been involved in many multicenter studies around the country and was recently selected to serve as a rating panelist for the development of Appropriate Use Criteria for multi-modality imaging in congenital heart disease. Dr. Glickstein is very involved in medical education both at the medical school level and the postgraduate level. Dr. Glickstein teaches first through fourth-year medical students at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, as a small-group preceptor for the Foundation of Clinical Medicine I, II and III and IV courses and well as is a preceptor for the Major Clinical Year. Dr. Glickstein is currently the Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at CHONY/ Columbia University. Dr. Glickstein was selected to be a member of the Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators ( 2013) and was appointed as a Member to the Academy of Clinical Mentoring and Excellence at Columbia University Medical Center (2016). Dr. Glickstein is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology. She is a member of many professional organizations including the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, the New York Pediatric Cardiology Society of Greater New York and the Fetal Heart Society. She sits on several national committees, including the Society of Pediatric Cardiology Training Program Directors (American Academy of Pediatrics), the Publications and Communications Committee and the Congenital Heart Disease Public Health Workgroup for the American Academy of Pediatrics/ Section on Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Biography: An international leader in pediatric cardiology, Christopher J. Petit, MD, has particular expertise in minimally invasive techniques to treat valve disease and complex congenital heart disease. Recognized for his clinical innovations, development of specialty programs, and his research accomplishments, Dr. Petit believes that the field of pediatric cardiology advances through collaborative discovery. He has been an active clinician-scientist, working to determine the best treatments for patients with congenital heart disease. Dr. Petit founded and currently serves as President of the Congenital Cardiac Research Collaborative.

Biography: Hanano Watanabe, M.D., M.S., is a general pediatric cardiologist at Weill Cornell Medicine. She received her B.S./M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology and minor in French Literature from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She then received her M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College and completed her residency in pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Watanabe worked as a pediatric hospitalist in the pediatric cardiac critical care unit at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York at Columbia University Medical Center prior to completing her fellowship in pediatric cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Centerand Weill Cornell Medicine.Dr. Watanabe's research interests include topics in preventive pediatric cardiology, including evaluation and management of pediatric dyslipidemia, hypertension, and promoting healthy lifestyles in children to maximize their cardiovascular wellness. She believes that maintaining cardiovascular wellnessis important for all, and especially paramount for children with congenital heart disease or any other chronic childhood illnesses. Furthermore, she is interested in early childhood determinants of health, including early nutrition and the maternal-fetal environment. Her academic interests include medical education and quality initiatives. She is the associate program director for the Cornell campus for the pediatric cardiology fellowship program. Dr. Watanabe is proficient in Japanese.

Care Philosophy: My clinical interests include the fetal and post-natal diagnosis of congenital heart disease and the management of patients after open heart surgery and cardiac catheterization. It is especially gratifying to be able to work closely with families and participate in optimizing the care of infants, children and adolescents with heart disease.

Biography: Eric Silver, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics who upon completion of his training in pediatric cardiology went on to advanced training in arrhythmia management in children and patients with congenital heart disease. He is a certified specialist in pediatric electrophysiology. His research has focused on invasive management of AV nodal reentrant tachycardia in children, a form of supraventricular tachycardia, the safety of a medication to treat arrhythmias in children who have had heart transplants, and he has participated in various research projects through the Pediatric Heart Network. He is active in teaching cardiology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students at Columbia University Medical Center.

Biography: Dr. Shah is a board certified pediatric cardiologist and an assistant professor of pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center. She speciailizes in non-invasive imaging within the division of pediatric cardiology. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook school of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics training at New York University (NYU) before completing her pediatric cardiology training at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). She further went on to complete a senior fellowship in non-invasive imaging at Mount Sinai Medical center focusing on advanced imaging techniques. Dr. Shah specializes in non-invasive cardiac imaging, including both fetal and pediatric echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and Cardiac CT, and serves as the Director of Pediatric Cardiovascular MRI and CT. Her research interests include imaging and management of single ventricle physiology, and using non-invasive techniques in evaluating ventricular mechanics in congenital heart disease from the fetus to adult.

Biography: Karen Altmann, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. She has expertise in pediatric echocardiography. Her interests include echocardiographic assessment of right and left ventricular function. Dr. Altmann is involved in the teaching and training of the pediatric cardiology fellows and is Director of pediatric cardiology Fellowship education in echocardiography at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. She is Director of Quality Improvement in the pediatric echocardiography laboratory. She is currently involved in the Pediatric Heart Network, participating in several multicenter trials sponsored by the NIH evaluating children with congenital heart disease. Dr. Altmann is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiography, the Pediatric Cardiology Society of Greater New York, and is on the Board of Directors of the New York Pediatric Echocardiographic Society.
