Dr. Amita Desai, MD

Dr. Desai was my surgeon when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was patient with me and made sure I understood my options and what to expect after my mastectomy. Amazingly thorough, knowledgeable, compassionate doctor. So grateful that our paths crossed!

I feel that Dr Desai is a competent surgeon and I trust her decision making in that area. I do, however, wish I had selected another practice for my care at this point simply based on the after surgery experience. I’ve had issues with follow-up after surgery and the issues that the surgery caused and it has been frustrating. Communication could definitely have been better after surgery - I have been given the impression that the goal is to remove the cancer (as it should be) and the complications are just what you get and you are on your own with those. Things were done prior to surgery that ended up costing us more in copays, etc which I just accepted as part of the fast movement of things but there are things in hindsight that could definitely be done differently for patient care. In short, I believe Dr Desai is a competent surgeon that did a good job but the overall experience was lacking in patient care for me comparatively to my other oncology experiences.

The doctor's explanations were thorough and well-explained. However, She spoke very fast, and it was hard to keep up without asking info to be repeated. Since the words and terms were unfamiliar I know I missed a few points -- but over all Dr. D was patient and repeated her explanations for me. I felt she listened and respected my imput.

I know I am receiving quality care and feel like all my medical needs for my condition is being met.

Dr. Desai was highly professional. I was thrilled we both understood each other in the sense of diagnosis, treatment and care. Lastly, it was a breath of fresh air to come upon a doctor who is considerate and acknowledged what I had to say.

Most of the people I know already have their doctors, but if someone would need a breast specialist, I would recommend my doctor.

Dr Desai really listens. She gives options when feasible (for tests or treatment) and always takes the time to explain things as in-depth as you need. I have never felt rushed at any appointment I've ever had with her. Highly recommend her.
