Dr. Basma Nahlawi, MD

I meant to write this a while ago. Dr. Al Nahlawi is so kind and respectful. One of the best Medi-Cal doctors I have. She listens and doesn’t play games with your health. I enjoy her intelligence and lack of arrogance tremendously. I can’t thank her enough for caring about me, and trying to actually help.

The doctor was great the staff however lacks professional communication skills. Saw the doctor, did all the blood tests and X-rays same day. Waited, and waited finally called, staff member said she would let the doctor know. Waited another week called back was told there was no documentation for the first call, ok people make mistakes. Still no answers, but a promise to call back with answers. Waited another four days, received a call from staff member, yes you have PA and need to start meds. “We will contact your insurance”. I sit and wait four more days, called insurance company, no record. Call this office back, staff member says oops, we never sent for it but we can give you a sample until you can get it in the mail. She makes sure to say it wasn’t her fault so I shouldn’t be rude to her. I’m in so much damn pain. I was not rude I was assertive and taking care of me. Lack of communication is not a good feeling when this office holds the key to my wellness!!

Very good doctor with very positive energy! Answered all my questions, very patient and smart. Prescribed me all tests I needed and gave me good recommendations on my health.

I injured my knee surfing and was not able to talk straight for months. One doctor recommended knee surgery. I was depressed and though I would never be able to surf again. A friend recommend that I get a second opinion from Dr. Nahlawi. After 4 visits, I am back on my board with all my original parts. Turned out my knee was inflamed and just needed some cream and a couple of shots.

I saw Dr. Nahlawi 2 times . She did blood work and x-rays which gave me a lot of answers. I had a third appt, set up when 4 days before the office staff called to cancel, set up another, 2 days before the same thing happen, and on the third appt. Very unprofessional in my opinion, They staff won't even let me see another Dr. till I filled out more paper work. So I filled it out, sent it back. That was 3 weeks ago. Just called and they have to find it.

The doctor is very good but unavailable - her office is a nightmare. They are no help. My mother has had 7 appointments canceled - which is a hardship when she has caregivers who have to coordinate appointments and they wait until the last minute. Even if the appointment has been confirmed they have still canceled. Refilling a prescription is very difficult - we are told the doctor is only here on Tuesdays and no effort is made to do anything.

Great experience, Dr. Alnahlawi is very knowledgeable and pleasant, staff members are very nice and helpful . Highly recommend.
