When I find out that I had cancel I went into a very deep depression and at that time my wife took me to Dr Awaa, and I started the treatment with him and I got a lot better and I was able to live a more comfortable life.

Excellent!!!
Ten years ago, I hit the jackpot when my PCP referred me to Dr. Awwa. Having worked in the mental health field for 20+ years, I am aware it is unusual to find a psychiatrist that is exceptionally intelligent, empathetic and kind- all the attributes that make for an excellent psychiatrist/human being. Dr. Awwa have all those attributes. For that, I am thankful!!

Astute, caring and wise
I have been with doctor Awwa for many years. He listens well. He is perceptive and knowledgeable about complex psychiatric conditions like mine and what combination of meds will work best. He is willing to listen to my thoughts and feelings about my state of mind and values my input. I feel like we work as partners in my mental health treatment. Even when the office is busy I don't feel rushed by him. Sometimes the staff is very busy and you need to wait a bit, but they are always attentive, courteous and respectful when it is your turn. Telehealth has made the small parking lot and the scarcity of handicapped access counseling rooms at the site I visit a moot point. Previously, they were issues of concern. Overall, I feel like I am receiving the very best care for my mental health.

Good luck getting in touch with him if you need anything. The phone number on his business card has no answering service and I've never gotten through to a human being via that number. Main office staff (in another town, miles away) does their best, but they're way too overloaded to do much more than the bare minimum. Overall, this practice has made me feel like an inconvenience at best. Wait time noted below is for the Groton office, where I saw another doctor before Dr. Awwa in Old Saybrook.

Dr. Awwa has been friendly and nice. The only problem I've had is making appts. the scheduling people constantly say there is no availability. I Spoke to the Dr. About this and he said he's heard this from many patients. he doesn't understand why they make it difficult . I also been booted from his office because my insurance supposedly didn't pay for a visit.

Dr. Awwa is NOT a good man. He knows nothing about with drawling people from medications, including benzodiazapines. I was his patient for two 1/2 long years. He prescribed me and tried me on: Klonopin, Ambien, Adderall, Effexor XR, Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, Viibryd, Gabapentin, Wellbutrin, Concerta, Vyvanse, and many others that I cannot remember. NOTE: I was sixteen when I started seeing him, now I'm nineteen years old! He would not answer phone while in benzo withdrawal.

Ive been his patient for years. He treats my child too who's dual diagnosed w/adhd & dyslexia. She's been in serious rebellion lately but respects him very much. He's the only adult she'l listen to & he legitimately cares for our well being. I was in his subox program & was able to be 100% honest with him as I never felt judged. Sadly there was some NL office workers who went from polite to rude after I stated I was in the program. I guess nothing's perfect. But the Norwich staff is awesome!
