Dr. Bayard Carlson, MD

I have had very severe headaches, jaw pain, neck, shoulder and arm pain for decades. I did have 2 neck surg done many years ago that worked. I haven't been able to find a surgeon that would or could help me. Thank goodness for my pain clinic at United that has helped me deal with things for the last 20ish years. I took a chance not knowing anything about Dr Carlson and from the first appt to my recent 6 wk check, my husband (and everyone else around me) has been greatly impressed. A 7 hour surgery, a lot done and 3 nights in the hosp and now on my 7th wk post op, I am beyond words to express my thanks! From my first call to make the consult app, to now, the clinic and hosp staff were extremely above anything I would expect. I have not one thing I could complain about. 10 out of 10 for all!

Dr. Carlson is a strong advocate for scoliosis patients. He engages in practical and honest discussions of realistic outcomes. Dr. Carlson has a clear approach in his reasoning for focused treatment plans that meet you where you are - and yet alert you to what you need to be aware of. He is looking out for his patients.

Dr Carlson explains in detail the CT and MRI diagnosis with me and my husband. Takes time for questions. The nurse's get back to you in a timely manner via a phone call or message on your chart. Appointments are on time.Dr Carlson and staff are kind and caring!

Dr. Carlson did not explain things well during my appointment, did not provide any details or ask if I had any questions. He did not provide a summary of the appointment so I have nothing to reference when trying to decide what to do next for my condition. He simply told me to call the office if I decide to get the shot he reccomended- yet he did not describe what kind of shot it would be or what outcome I could expect from it. When asked if he would send information to my primary doctor he stated he was not able to do so. He is probably a very skilled doctor but I was disappointed in the appointment due to his poor patient communication.

Dr. Carlson and his staff always displayed kindness and empathy to me and my family. They listened and all questions were answered. Dr. Carlson tackled a complex spinal surgery with aplomb, giving me good results. I would not hesitate to have him do additional back surgery if needed in the future.

Dr. Carlson listened to my problems and took the extra time to go over my MRI with me. He made a plan with me and I left feeling so grateful for his expertise.

Dr. Carlson is what a doctor should be! He always knows my full (and extensive) health history and works with my other health care providers to achieve the best treatment and outcomes.A truly brilliant doctor who CARES for his patients!

Bayard Carlson is by far the nicest and most delightful surgeon I've ever consulted with (for myself or numerous family members facing surgeries), and among my top five favorite doctors ever. After decades of herniated discs, I really had hoped to avoid surgery, but when it got to the point I had no choice, I am SO glad I found him.

Dr Carlson really listens and hears what is going on with you. He is very kind and understanding, and knowledgeable. He goes over what solutions are available to help you.

Dr. Carlson was very attentive and he was very thorough with explaining the results from multiple MRI’S and x-rays. I was satisfied with his findings in regards to my right knee pain.

He enjiys what he does for a profession. He is thorough and kind and sorta cute. Wink.

The professional way things were handled

Dr. Carlson is an unbelievable physician because he was taught by the best!

Dr. Carlson previously performed a lumbar fusion about 18 months ago. I had such an incredible recovery!! So, when I began to experience new symptoms and pain in my back and leg, but on the other leg, that didn’t dissipate, I reached out to Dr Carlson. After hearing what was happening, they attempted to do detailed imaging but my insurance company denied the request. God bless Dr Carlson, and fortunately for me, Dr Carlson did an insurance appeal on my behalf. so that we could get advanced imaging. The imaging showed new damage to my spine that needed treatment. So we’ve developed a plan of action that I’m comfortable with. Given the first time we met 18 months ago I was in a wheelchair, and he gave me back the gift of walking, I’m confident that regardless of whatever direction things take, Dr Carlson and his gifted team will be with me, and guiding me, each step of the way. For that I’m so very grateful.
