My son was a freshman at UNC, Chapel Hill, and had Takotsubo syndrome and was under the care of Dr. Hicks. Dr. Hicks had excellent medical skills as well as excellent bedside manner. He took a lot of time with us(his parents and sister) and our son explaining everything about my son's condition and made many check-ins with my son. He was always there when needed and we never felt like a bother to him. We never felt rushed with him. He gave my son such great clinical knowledge and advice. He was also like a counselor to my son. I am a RN and have been in nursing for 30 years and was so impressed with Dr. Hick's knowledge, skills, and communication with our family and son. Thankfully, my son had a full recovery and it was in thanks to Dr. Hicks. My son had this episode in 2011. UNC is so fortunate and blessed to have Dr. Hicks.

I was in the hospital for a 99% blockage in my main heart artery called the widowmaker 4weeks ago.I am an extremely complicated case due to a brain aneurysm, and blood clot disorders.A cath was done and a stent was put in. This WONDERFUL man was in the cardiac group of drs who cared for me. He is SO kind, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. I found his genteel approach and clear explanations to be comforting, and I desperately needed a touch of this level of kindness amidst the frightening array of things to deal with the heart attack. He also takes the time to answer questions, teach about medications and lifestyle changes. He is kind and warm in his approach, not judgemental. I had my first followup in clinic today, and found him to be very thorough and he answered all of my questions and did not rush me.I worked in the medical field for over 30 years and I can tell you that this physician is a KEEPER!
