failure to diagnose and treat staph infection
In June 2024, Dr. Charles G. Hunter, Alta View Podiatry, performed a chemical matrixectomy, permanent toenail removal, on my left and right big toes. If I hadn't changed doctors, Dr. Hunter's failure to diagnose and treat a staph infection and bone infection in the left toe could have led to life threatening sepsis. In week 4, I was experiencing severe pain, redness, swelling, and chemical burns. Dr. Hunter said both toes looked good and to give it more time.In week 5, I got a second opinion from Dr. Nathan W. Davis, Cottonwood Podiatry. Dr. Davis immediately did a culture of the left toe that came back positive for staphylococcus lugdunensis. Dr. Davis then ordered an x-ray and MRI of the left foot which came back positive for a bone infection. There was also a concern of possible chemical burns to the bone. Dr. Davis aggressively and successfully treated the staph infection and bone infection with 5 weeks of strong antibiotics.
