I went in knowing I needed a total knee replacement. I have been a patient of Dr WHEELESS for years. Many times after making an appointments to see Dr WHEELESS I was given to his PA who is very good but not a doctor. When I went in I wanted to discuss the knee replacement. Someone came to the door and gave him an ice coffee. He turned to me and said “ come back when you cannot walk” and left with his coffee. Never once allowed my husband and I to ask one question. We were left sitting there. We left and I decided to go somewhere else. His rudeness is unexceptionable. You can wait , literally, hours to see him and are treated like this! He was rude, unprofessional and ignorant. I would never recommend dr. WHEELESS after this appointment.

Left with SIGNIFICANT med bills
I went to Dr Wheeless for a potential knee replacement. He blew me off regarding the knee and instead ordered a massive number of blood tests. These had NOTHING to do with my knee or any other orthopedic issues. The tests cost more than $5000; much of which wasn’t covered by my very good health insurance because they deemed them medically unnecessary. I took the test results to my Primary Care doc and he literally laughed and threw the results in the trash saying that even a hospital in desperate need of saving someone’s life would not order that extensive a blood and metabolic panel. I think Dr Wheeless’ “in house” lab relationship with Quest diagnostics is suspect. Further, he recommended over the counter supplements costing hundreds. Labs came back well within normaI range so I didn’t need them. Lost even MORE $$$! He also spoke complete nonsense about ED. Newsflash - being female, I definitely DON’T suffer from erectile disfunction. I will NEVER return to OrthoNC. He’s a QUACK!

Excellent! Caring Doctor
Dr Wheeless & his ENTIRE team is very professional, very knowledgeable & the best personally caring medical team I’ve ever had! They are compassionate & listen to you & take time with you to explain everything. Highly recommend Dr Wheeless along with his two of his outstanding PA’s Adam Brewer & Krista Holterman. They care so much about you as a person & work together with you to come up with the best care plan possible.

Each time I came to my appointment my wait was always short within ten minutes. Dr Wheeles took his time explaining tests and lab work. I didn’t feel like he was rushing I felt like he truly cared about his patients. He has done my left shoulder surgery in 2006. I recommend anyone that needs Ortho care to schedule with Dr Wherless.

Total Knee Replacement
I beleive Dr. Wheeless is very intellegent and although he quotes a lot of medical writings and I love the fact that he does a lot of blood work, I feel that he is very rogue and steps outside the box sometimes. I have been left with what may be a life long injury from a side-effect of my surgery that was completely unnecessary. I would not recommend Dr. Wheeless.

He is obviously intelligent, but his communication is poor. Both times at my visit I had to wait over an hour past my appointment time and then he rushed in and out. I did not feel heard, nor did I get any answers or solutions to my pain. I am seeking another doctor's help now.

Some reviews are of staff not dr. Wheeless. You wait but he does not do the scheduling. Reviewing dr Wheeless; he is one of 2 of the best specialists I have ever seen. I had neck & shoulder pain so bad it was almost unbearable. I could hardly move my arm and my hands were weak. I was told that I needed a shoulder replacement NOW. I saw dr Wheeless, the man is literally a genius. He examined me and did various MRIs w/ some other tests ON MY NECK. He showed me everything & told me it was my neck. That I needed to see a surgeon who did very difficult cases. I had to go to DUKE. It turned out I was going to be paralyzed in a matter of time. I started falling, dropping things. Dr Wheeless is the only dr in years who knew what was wrong & sent me to the best dr ever for neck surgery. He knows how painful that surgery was so w/ my knee he is working w/ me till I can wrap my head around another surgery. He is caring & kind. He does not push expensive treatments. I recommend him highly.

Had my shoulder repaired by Dr. Wheeless last week. Two things stand out to me. 1. He is prepared beforehand when we meet in his office or OR table. He has not only analyzed my situation, but prepared to offer alternatives and his recommendation. 2. He cares. You cannot teach people to care in any school. That is a personal value that a person either has or does not. Dr. Wheeless truly cares for his patients.

I like the atmosphere it makes you feel safe not nerves like some doctors office. They also listen to what hurts on you and try to find away to make you feel better. Service is great his staff is very friendly. You don't half to wait all day for to be called. I recommend Dr. Wheeless to anyone who is in pain.

Dr. Wheeless operated on me March 17, 2017. I have never felt better! I had been to other docs previously and they could never quite come up with a diagnosis... He immediatly knew it was my hip and the guidance and care I have received has been excellent. He spends the time needed to really listen to you and he is very caring. Personally, I think he is a genius!
