Shoulder surgery
Dr. Zang was an extremely knowledgeable and has a refreshing bedside manner. He was a second opinion for me and I am thankful to of had him for my surgeon. I had a bicep teniotomy and labral tear repair. I have complete confidence in his repair and I am back at the gym at 5-months post-op!

Not good
I had a 7:45 AM appt, after being 20mins late he spent less than a minute asking where the pain was, left elbow, having me bend my arms, touching a few spots then pronouncing there is nothing he can do, it should feel better in a year!!! This guys a quack. No explanation no diagnosis, absolute disgrace.

The problem of over-specialization
I broke my humerus (the large upper arm bone) in several places in the summer of 2023. Although Dr Zhang saw the initial CAT scan and X-ray, he was totally focused on the fracture, and dismissed concerns about tissue injury. Despite numerous requests by my physical therapists (and my wife and I) for an MRI to rule out additional injury, Dr Zhang declined to write the MRI referral. Finally, five MONTHS after the original injury, my PCP got involved and ordered an MRI. It showed my rotator cuff torn in two different places, joint and tendon inflammation and evidence of a bicep tear. The physical therapist adjusted my program, but said I will have a more limited recovery compared to what I might have had if they had full information earlier in the process. Dr Zhang was dismissive of our requests and of concerns from professionals in other fields and provided substandard care.

Carpal tunnel surgery
Dr Zhang repaired carpal tunnel syndrome on both of my hands last summer. I did great with the first surgery. No issues. However, I ended up with a major infection in my other incision/hand. It wasn’t anything he did wrong. I’m susceptible to infections/MRSA. He had covid when I was sick so he couldn’t see me or do the surgery that was needed for the infection. Dr. Dyer operated on me as an emergency case. My incision was left open to heal after the surgery. I had to have it cleaned & packed daily for several weeks. At my follow-up, Dr Zhang was so apologetic, caring and kind. He felt so bad that this happened and especially that he wasn’t able to do the “wash out”. I received the best care during both carpal tunnel surgeries and the wash out for the infection from Dr. Zhang, Dr. Dyer and the staff at Brigham & Women’s. Dr. Zhang is absolutely wonderful and I’m so thankful he was my surgeon.

Dr. Zhang was caring, thorough, clear in his diagnosis, and gave us confidence that he could and would fix my husband's thick tissue rotator cuff tear after a ski accident. This accident also caused an injury to my husband's cervical spine and Dr. Zhang assured us Bob would be fine through surgery and recovery. While recovery of rotator cuff surgery is a torturous painful journey, Bob did everything the Dr. prescribed, followed through with PT, and has better mobility now than before the accident. Dr. Zhang and his team are the best and we highly recommend Brigham and Woman's Ortho department at Faulkner Hospital to everyone.

Got xray for finger (Paid for) and got sent to him by PCP. Literally spent 5 minutes in their office and was told no treatment option was available. Sent me a Bill for $1,253.00 and refused to negotiate or justify this rate. No service was given, no treatment was given. This person is a crook!
