Dr. David Guthman, MD

I saw Dr. Guthman because I am 30 and cannot go more than 5 minutes without having to urinate. He was very friendly and made small talk most the visit, then suggested it's my personality type (my prostate is swollen because I'm neurotic or something vaguely unscientific). He put me on a medication for 3 months, when that didn't work he tried another for 3 months. Ultimately he shrugged his shoulders, said 'your prostate and or bladder is enlarged or enflamed, not sure what else to tell you - should go away in 10 years'.I'm quite certain I have a valve issue or something structural which requires an operation. Wish I'd saved half a year and seen someone else.

Went to the office for catheter check liked the doctor, good personality, was very enthusiastic about having this as my urologist. Call today with some serious issues and experience wearing this catheter spoke to the nurse that assisted me when I was there the other day, being Friday this was urgent and I told her and she mentioned she was calling the doctor. He’s not in today. She will treat this as a very urgent, quick call back. Didn’t receive a call back so I called back at 11:30 AM, spoke to people each time. They said they’ll put this on the highest level of a quick return phone call, called at 12:30 called at 1:30 called at 2:30 called at 3:30 called at 4:30 each time becoming more angry because They decided not to call me back to help my emergency situation. Called then at 4:55 pm and They were closed. She left for the day. This is the worst medical Customer Service experience probably on record anywhere in the world !!!

Dr. Guthman was so personable, yet professional! He answered questions, was informative & very down to earth.

Total disappointment he does all the talking doesn't care about the patient can't complete the task in front of him then kicks you to the curb total failure

Ended up in ER for kidney stone. Got saddled with Guthman. He does not listened and is a poor communicator. Staff is just as bad.Horrendous experience.

A big SHOUT OUT to Dr. Guthman and his assistant Diane. Yesterday morning I had surgery and everything went well. Prior to surgery, Dr. Guthman took the time to answer every question I had in detail. I have to admit I'm a wimp when it comes to surgery stuff but he helped me with that too. This morning - very little pain (he said there would be little pain and was right - no pain medicine needed. The OR recovery staff was awesome too - somehow we ended up talking about everything from Pizza to Florida. Bottom line - Dr. Guthman is very knowledgeable with a ton of experience. I can tell he's also a very cool guy. Use him!

Kidney stones I wouldn’t be able to pass he removed without any pain or issues NCH is an excellent hospital. One of the best around in Northwest suburbs of Chicagoland

He speeds through a prostrate Exam and if you ask questions he answers them as he is walking out the door. Beware, he is pushing Implants now.

Went to Dr. Guthman for blood in my urine. First visit he did all the talking leaving little time for my questions. He also seemed to be in a real hurry to leave. Second visit was a cystoscopy, which I was assured would not hurt. It was a very painful procedure and once again I sensed that he had very little time after the procedure for any of my questions. He did, however, assure me that my bladder was fine.

Dr. Guthman has treated me for bladder cancer for several years. I have found him to be very skilled and very kind. I have always felt confident that I was receiving the best of care and would never want to see another doctor for this issue. I have now been in remission for long enough that I am considered to be cancer free, and I thank Dr. Guthman for all he has done to see me through this illness.

I give less than one star for review. He did lithotripsy on my husband- cost us over $1000 out of pocket and it did not work. He still had the kidney stone month later- scheduled surgery to remove it. Went through the surgery only to find no stone and a stent was put in for a few days. After the stent was removed my husband was in so much pain, he was so miserable for 3 days he had to sleep in a lazy boy chair. He could not work due to the pain. Never called to follow up Bad choice to see him

I have been a patient of his for years and have now deceided to find a doctor that will call me. Comunication is so important and having to talk to his female staff is just wrong. I asked them I want to talk to my doctor! He has NEVER called me back! I was billed wrong due to his error per the hospital the insurance people and his own nurse! I am out the money even though I have two insurance companies who said the coding is wrong Guthman knows billing but not refunds. He should pay up!!

Not a very good doctor if you want to fix a problem. He's very good at medicating the hell out of you. Typical doc that is bought out by big Pharma. I went in trying to raise my testosterone levels in a more natural approach because we still wanted to have kids. And instead he puts me on a synthetic form that basically won't allow you to have kids. He's a joke and he knows it. If you ask me there are many doctors that will sit and listen to you instead of just drugging you up

I am very pleased with the treatment I received . Dr Guthman is an excellent doctor. I had a 7mm kidney stone causing blockage. Dr Guthman removed it by performing a ureteroscopy, and I feel like a new person. Pain free. No issues. I definitely recommend him!

My personal life is RUINED . I had undergone circumcision about few years ago. Never expected that he makes such a small surgery. My bad day. I would have done more research before choosing him as my surgeon. Very rude. I got lymphadima on my penis including gland. I end up having second surgeory with better surgeon. Oh my god. He mentioned it as normal which is very abnormal. Don't know why I selected him. I have to regret my decision . Paying penalty through out my life.

Dr. Guthman lacked empathy for what I was enduring; a cyst was removed on urethra + he was unable to fix what resulted in a fistual. He did 2nd surgery + never explained to me what I woke up + found. I was upset + did not want to get up to go home. This surgery failed + w/urging from gynie I sat down with him to listen to what he was proposing. I left his ofc w/head voices RUN. I found an excellent urogynologist who knew what to do + consulted with panel of dr.+ I got my own hosp room.

Personable during visit. I had abnormal test results that were relayed to me per a medical assistant who could not explain the results; could not answer my questions. I asked to have the dr call me to explain the abnormal results & answer my questions. No call ever came. It's one thing to have an MA relay normal results, but abnormal results should be given by the dr. Due to the information given me via the MA, I have extreme fear and anxiety re possible cancer.Looking for dr at LGH/NorthShore.
