Rushed and apathetic
The appointment was extremely rushed, it felt like Dr. Mikkelsen didn't want me to talk nor ask questions at all and he seemed extremely apathetic. On followup, he didn't call me like he said he would with the results, but rather wrote me a note attached to the tests results. He said to continue with the care plan we discussed, but we never discussed a care plan. He made no other recommendations to my referring MD regarding a future testing schedule, etc. On his examination notes, he charted observing, examining several things that he did not do at all. I worked in health care as a provider for 29 years. I have a good idea what's going on. He may be a skilled surgeon, but I did not care for his style at all. I can not recommend him for these reasons.

Informative, calm and helpful for my father
My father saw him to discuss his prostate cancer. The doctor took the time to answer our questions, let me be part of the process as my dad has some dementia, and we felt very well informed and taken care of. My dad will definitely go to Dr. Mikkelson for surgery.

No recommendation from me. I waited for over an hour after my urethra was given some numbing agent for him to come in and take a stent out. He shouted at the male nurse to get out of the room. No one analyzed any of the stones to see what kind they were. A person called me from that office to give me info on some meds that they had ordered and talked down to me “You WILL take this medication until it is done.” Never mind that my body doesn’t do well with narcotics. I just know I do not even want to go to that office again.

I wholeheartedly recommend, without reservation, that anyone needing prostate surgery contact Dr. Mikkelsen. My experience dealing with him about my prostate cancer was extremely professional and skilled. His knowledge and surgical experience resulted in an outcome that preserved full urinary and sexual function for me, for which I am extremely grateful. As of the date of this review it has been 3 months since my prostate removal. I am cancer free and have returned to all normal activities.

Super upset wife! My husband has had three recurring infections after his vasectomy. With pain consistently after being at the hospital 3 times in the past month . He was referred to Spokane Urology and he saw Dr. Mikkelsen who didn’t even give him the time of day. He was in the room for 3 minutes with his head down the entire time. Basically told my husband to deal with the pain and the recurring infections. He then stood up as my husband was talking ready to walk out the room. Shame on him!!!

This guy gave me a vasectomy and it was one of the most awful medical procedures I've ever had. His staff was totally unprofessional during the procedure to boot. I would strongly encourage anyone/everyone to avoid this Doctor.

Dr. Mikkelsen was reserved at the beginning of my first appointment but after reviewing the information in my chart he explained things thoroughly and took time to answer my questions. The staff in the office scheduled my appointment for surgery as soon as possible. My recovery seemed to be reasonable and I had no complications. Dr. Mikkelsen called me with lab results the day they came back, I would recommend this doctor to any of my family or friends.

This doctor is awful. AWFUL! His vasectomy technique is the worst I've ever seen. And more often than not, it doesn't work. He treatment of staff is the worst I've ever seen. Clearly, he doesn't like people. AVOID HIM!!

I drove a 7 hour round trip, to see a doctor that saw me for literally 3 minutes. I was dealing with a kidney stone issue, referred by another urologist in a smaller town that thought I could benefit from speaking to someone with more knowledge about laser removal of a kidney stone of this size and in a high position. Unfortunately wasn't given the time of day and noticed this dr. doesn't seem to have a want to help people. Unfortuately he struck me as the type done and tired of his profession.

Don't ever, EVER go to this doctor who is a butcher. My husband had a horrendous vasectomy experience with him. Dr. Mikkelsen started the procedure without letting my husband become numb from the lidocaine. My husband told him that he felt everything, but Dr. M gave more lidocaine and went back to work without waiting. My husband took weeks to recover. Additionally, the office wouldn't give him a consultation before checking our insurance first. Money matters more than patients at this office.

I would highly recommend to any man needing help with prostate issues. He definitely knows his stuff and is an excellent surgeon. He did a TURP on my 67 year old husband who had been unable to urinate on his own for 2 months because of a huge prostate. We had been putting off this surgery because of possible side effects of incontinence and impotence but my husband's surgery was successful with no side effects at all and he is doing extremely well 1 1/2 years later. .

I was referred to Dr. Mikkelsen after I had two bad PSA tests. I liked the doctor the first time I met him. He told me exactly what we were going to do and what tests that I needed. I had the tests ran and a biopsy ran and it confirmed that I did indeed have prostate cancer.

The treatment of the entire staff and Dr. Mikkelsen himself was horrible. After being referred for an emergency case from the ER it took almost a week and a lot of arguing and begging to even be given an appointment. Then at the actual appointment the staff treated me horribly and the Dr. spent 30 seconds with me. The problem was not even addressed, diagnosed or treated. This visit was the definition of mistreatment.
