May be brilliant but runs his practice poorly
5 people in the second waiting room. All of us were booked for a 10:30 appointment with this Dr. it is now 12:52. This last time was similar but only 1.5 hours wait. When I told him I was very unhappy about the wait his response was it’s normal to wait 2 hours for a specialist. I will not be back.

Excellent doctor
I am extremely appreciative and thankful to have been recommended to Dr Uchiyama at the Retina Group. I came in as an emergency patient and was afforded a great deal of time. I’m blind in my left eye, and developed Uveitis in my right eye. If it wasn’t for Dr. Uchiyama, I would be totally blind today. Due to his excellent care and expertise, my prognosis is great. He reviewed the many tests taken focusing on every detail of my condition. I felt very comfortable with him and he explained everything to me in terms that I could understand. I highly recommend this specialist.

Rude, condescending, zero bedside manner
Dr. Uchiyama is the rudest doctor I have had the misfortune to encounter in my life. Zero bedside manner, didn’t even introduce himself, implied I was lucky and he was doing me a favor for me having an appointment, talked down to me, chastised me about something that had nothing to do with my health or my appointment that he made up quite frankly (happily would love there to be video of the waiting room? I am happy to have any owners of the office watch it and see he said I did something that I did not do. In fact, I’ll watch it with Dr. Uchiyama.) He can show me exactly where I supposedly did what he insinuated without any reason or cause. It didn’t happen. And him formulating an opinion about me based on this thing that didn’t happen impacted my standard of care. Rude. Unprofessional. Also, he can think I’m the worst. He still is supposed to like, be a doctor? Not my parent? Truly the most disrespected I have ever felt after a doctor’s appointment. Also, be ready to wait 4 hours

Extremely condescending doctor, very rude
The doctor did not introduce himself when he walked in. In fact, he said nothing. Apparently because he was annoyed I privately asked about the 3 hours I had been waiting thus far without any update. I asked one person, once. I didn’t think it was unreasonable to ask someone since I was supposed to be back at work, no one had updated anyone, and the waiting room was backed with no less than 5 people all with the same exact appointment time. He decided it was very important to chastise me about asking about the 3 hour wait, and told me basically that I shouldn’t have said anything. That next time, I shouldn’t come in asking about “3 hours and 3 hours.” So I guess my punishment was an incredibly unprofessional chastising from this doctor I waited three hours for that doesn’t even have basic manners to say hello I am your doctor. What I ask about in private isn’t really any of his business anyways? I requested another doctor, definitely do not recommend

Dr. Uchiyama saved my eyesight & possibly my life
After seeing flashes of light in my left eye I contacted Dr Uchiyama’s office. The staff accommodated me immediately. The same day, Dr. Uchiyamam thoroughly examined both eyes and found a retinal tear in my left eye which he immediately repaired. But the truly remarkable circumstance is that the doctor examined my right eye, which I had no concerns about, and found an abnormal freckle that he questioned. Dr. Uchiyama took photos of the right eye and sent them to his colleague who is a specialist in retinal oncology. The doctor’s suspicions were founded. I had melanoma in my right eye. Because of Dr. Uchiyama’s thoroughness, skill, and network of doctors, I was able to receive specialized radiation treatment that increases the likelihood of preserving my eyesight and reducing the time that cancer was left undiagnosed in my body.Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Uchiyama from myself and my entire family!

Walking through the door I was greeted by staff who showed caring of my safety, the staff and the doctor's by taking my temperature and asking precautionary COVID 19 questions. This office is large and equipped with enough pleasant staff members to keep me going before it's time to be evaluated by the doctor. Each employee were so nice to be around. Based on my condition and diagnosis Dr. Uchiyama gave me a truthful and professional plan of care. He immediately started working on my damaged eyes, not advising me to come back for another appointment and charging my insurance. Each visit he worked my eyes and his hands over the limit to help me. I truly appreciate all that he has done for me and I strongly recommend his services to anyone I know and anyone reading this.

He is not really my Dr. He was seeing patients of Dr. Kelly at Wellington and I happened to come in for an emergency visit. I have to say sadly that he is not personable Dr. or seemed genuinely concerned about my condition. I would not want him to be my Dr.

Last year during a hurricane, I suffered from a Retina detachment that required immediate surgery. Presenting a challenge, Dr. Uchiyama performed my "not so typical" surgery and saved my retina. I am eternally grateful for his kindness, Professionalism, and humble demeanor. I completely felt comfortable through the entire process. Words cannot express my gratitude.

To me, the rapidness with which I was losing my eyesight was terrifying. Other eye doctors recommended Dr. Uchiyama immediately and i have been grateful every day since. The minute I met him I knew he wanted to help and that he knew what to do. I could not be asleep for my surgery since Dr. Uchiyama needed me to hold my eye in certain positions while he removed a growth from my retina. (And i know he forgave me for twitching a bit) His abilities as a surgeon are incredible because I could see everything he did with his instrument. I can see much better now and keep regular appointments with Dr. Uchiyama. He has my best interests in mind and his knowledge is priceless to me. And from my experience his concern for all his patients is the same. He has my respect and i am grateful beyond words. A thought: If a 10 to 15 min wait time bothers anyone, think about why it takes that 'long'. That is nothing when you consider the quality of care & knowledge you will receive!
