Saved my Husband
My husband was having severe back pain that was being dismissed by the paramedics that came by ambulance and cause of their actions he lost complete feeling from his stomach down. Our local hospital dismissed it saying it was swollen and had some slight degeneration and he didn’t have feeling due to all the med and insisted we went home and rest a few days. We ended up calling ambulance right back, despite laying in the car to get home the diagnosis just didn’t sit right with us and we ended up at the hospital in Asheville. Dr. Rhoton was in our room and doing an exam within 10 mins and determined the cause and needed to be in surgery within 2 hours to avoid being paralyzed permanently. 20 mins later he was taken back to be prepped for surgery. In all of this Dr. Rhoton was informative and reassuring despite the risks we were facing and the possibility of permanent damage. 4 years and we are so grateful for knowledge and efficiency, the surgery was a success with next to no damage.

Dr. Rhoten Saved My son’s life
I am forever grateful to Dr. Rhoten for saving my son’s life. My 15 year old son was admitted to Mission Hospital with a severe TBI post automobile accident. After 3 days his brain swell became sever enough to require intervention. Dr. Rhoten preformed an emergency bilateral craniectomy. This surgery absolutely saved my son’s life as his brain swelling was beginning to put pressure on the brain stem. After several months of hospitalization Dr. Rhoten then preformed my child’s bilateral cranioplasty. 6 months post op and my son is healing and back in school. Dr. Rhoten is an absolute genius, and he is amazing at what he does. The level of care he provided my child and our family is unparalleled. He will always hold a very special place in my heart and forever has my deepest gratitude. I will never be able to thank him enough for what he has given us.

Years Back Dr. Rhoton worked on a protruding disc, it was wrapped on a spinal nerve, a very delicate procedure and intricate to say the least, Dr. Rhoton and his team performed this at the Mission Hospital , That was almost 20 yrs ago, From that day forward by back problems were solved. I found the Dr. to be a real hero in this part of my life. We have just moved back home here and wanted to reach out to thank him. Also I am sorry to hear that Mission has gone so down hill. It was the cornerstone of the health of this community . Times Change,

The office is run like a corporation - cold and impersonal. Compassion is not a strong point among the staff. My first experience with Dr. Rhoton was for a cervical vertebra fusion. Dr. Rhoton's staff apparently forgot I was supposed to have surgery that day and arranged Dr. Rhoton's schedule so that I ended lying in the pre-op room for over six hours. More recently, I had an appointment to discuss why I am still in excruciating pain on Dr. Rhoton's schedule for almost two months. On the day of my appointment, the scheduler called and canceled (left me a voice mail). I was so distraught, I could not comprehend what the scheduler's reason was. I tried to call back and beg for help. I was only able to leave a message. No one returned my call. I believe I am getting this uncaring, dismissive treatment from the staff because I am a veteran referred by the VA and not a four-star patient.

This Doc is a busy guy for good reason. He's good at what he does. Since I was new to the area and my cervical spine condition was fairly complex, I had to do a little research to find the right neurosurgeon. Though it was a little tough to make the initial appointment, the surgery process that followed was detailed, empathetic and very informative throughout. His PA's are both first rate and equally impressive. Post op 1 month - So far so good. Post op followup was good and progress continues. Rarely do I give 5 stars on anything but this time it is deserved.

I was paralyzed by a Chiropractor and Dr Rhoton got me in, visited me in the Hospital, made sure my family was taken care of and operated on me the next day. He also scheduled an MRI in Waynesville to speed up the process of my operation and it made all the difference in the world. Since the surgery, I have never had a problem of any kind. What a wonderful , great, professional, extremely knowledgeable and treats everyone like family. I was honored to have Dr Rhoton as a Doctor and friend.
