The lapiplasty surgery was not done well. He did not know how to heal the wound for months. Another doctor’s advice did it within a few days. During the recovery Dr. Polun did not tell me that I had a hairline fracture, which caused the bone to heal bent. More than a year later, still can’t bend my toes well.

Permanent and Irreversible Deformation
I came to Dr Polun with the problem of a severe bunion. I was told that it could be corrected with a Lapiplasty. What actually ensued was that my foot was mangled and deformed and left in daily much worse pain than I had with just my bunion. I was also told that he would NOT correct the surgery. My foot not only looks disgusting but is also in anguishing pain and discomfort all day every day.

Performed unnecessary and aggressive surgery on my foot leaving my foot ruined. Avoid this doctor and this office!

Dr. Polun and Staff
It's been over a year that I had several office visits with Dr. Polun for a bunionectomy. Dr. Polun was very thorough explaining the process. However, the surgery never happened due to a glitch in the insurance. It took several calls to the office to find out that we would not move forward. His staff lost my x-rays and medical records from my previous podiatrist. I requested this and the medical data from Dr. Polun's office which I had paid for out of pocket. I've called several times, but never received it. Very disappointing.

Complications after Lapiplasty
Serious complications including big toe joint rigidity (only 10 degrees bending), swelling, nerve pain in the whole foot 10 months post surgery. Required surgery to remove the hardware (recently done at Hopkins) due to pain, swelling, bruising, nerve pain going all the way to the knee. Several podiatrists said the surgery was unnecessarily invasive for my condition, and have had multiple patients coming to see them operated by Dr. Polun with similar complications. The recovery is long and painful (9-12 months), requires PT, and has many risks not as advertised online and by Dr. Polun (walk within days on his business card). Was a big mistake trusting Dr. Polun with my health.

Happy Patient
Dr. Polun is in a class by himself. Why would you go to anyone else? A++ Brilliant, caring, detail oriented. Dr. Polun takes great pride in his work. He was put on this earth to help people with their foot problems. I am extremely pleased with my Bunyan surgeries on both feet. I trust him.

Run. We agreed on surgery to shave my corn on my fifth toe. Instead he took most of the bone out and now I have a floppy toe. All of the orthopaedic surgeons who review my xrays were shocked that he removed so much bone when it was not necessary. Apparently, he has reputation that I was not aware of so I would like to spare all the heartache and permanent deformity.

If you need checked out or done Dr. Polun is your guy. I went to a couple different offices to see what the issues were my foot were. Dr. Polun truly gave me a complete experience. I call it complete because he identifies all the issues (issues you didn't know were an issue), educates you, and then gives you "your options." In addition, he gives his recommend course of action. In my case I was flat footed and had a painful bunion. Dr. Polun explained to me what the road to recovery would look like and didn't sugar coat anything. I am about 6 months post op from my first surgery with Dr. Polun and honestly he was with me every step of the way. I have never in my life met a person who was truly there for a patient like Dr. Polun. So if you're looking for the guy you've found him. Also it helps that he has all the latest tech, clean office, and nice staff. I like to say if he's good enough for Michael Jordan he's good enough for me.

Oh my goodness, this is going to be such an easy review for me to write, because I truly believe in Dr. Polun. I went in with a broken ankle and breaks in my foot. I’m not a medically minded person, he was able to explain the brakes and options for treatment in a very elemental way so I could fully understand and make the best decision on going forward with the treatment. When Dr. Polun speaks to you, it’s like you are the only person in the office, his entire focus for that time is on you and you definitely feel his sincere care for you. He even emailed me the next day asking how I slept in the new night boot because the day before I had expressed my concern with how heavy the walking boot was to sleep in…who does that?!? Only Dr. Polun has ever done that with me. He and his staff deserve 11 stars, but I can only give them 5. If you need a doctor, I give my highest recommendation.

Dr Polun is 1 in a million! The best! He is expert, professional, proactive, caring, responsive and really, really good at what he does. He diagnosed me correctly immediately, showed me my x-rays & carefully explained. He provided alternatives and a recommendation. For me it meant surgery;I had concerns. I travel & work out. He gave me options. His staff handled everything professionally and proactively. My surgery went great & recovery has been speedy. I am fortunate to have found him.

Dr. Polun is THE BEST OF THE BEST. I have seen many other doctors and he is in a class by himself. He is smart, an excellent diagnostician, and he conducts surgery in a painless, efficient way to insure the best result for his patients. My experience with Dr. Polun was nothing short of outstanding, and I would recommend him for anyone with a foot and/or ankle problem.

He ruined my foot! 1 1/2 years post-op & I can barely walk & still have pathologic swelling. In the PACU, Dr Polun told me he performed an additional procedure to which I did NOT consent, i.e., he broke my toe to straighten it. After 3 stress fractures & an orthopedic boot for a year, light therapy, months of PT, a tendon stretching brace & a bone stimulator, I asked why my foot was so swollen & taking so long to heal. He said it was "only 10-15% bigger than the other one". I now have a real MD.

I thought Dr.Polun has very kind, and pleasant bedside manner. Always a smile on his face! He is quite busy so there might be a wait but it is worth it because he goes above and beyond to resolve your foot/ankle issues! The office staff checked up on me next day after surgery and Dr Polun called personally as well. I will definitely recommend him to other people I know. The staff has always been friendly and Rebecca is especially helpful getting paperwork completed for employer.
