Dr. Joel Retsky, MD

I never write reviews, but I feel the need to do so in this case. I have been Dr. Retsky's patient for years (starting after an acute illness, and including several follow-ups over time), and I'm very happy with the support and service I have received from Dr. Retsky and his team. In fact, I think that he has gone above and beyond the ordinary level of support I would expect, largely during a long (and very frustrating)(but ultimately successful) battle with my insurance company over bills. In general, I find him to be very experienced, and very straightforward in his manner - which I appreciate. And I have always found him to be very responsive and caring. I think he is a great doctor; and I'm not quite sure what I would do without him ... so, I would recommend him highly, particularly if you have a complex situation and need a very experienced practitioner.

Went for colonoscopy. I arrived on time and had to wait for over an hour, feeling very miserable as one would feel after the "prep". Dr. Retsky said nothing about his reason for being late. He did not say he was sorry. I did not have the impression that he cares about others.

While I believe Dr. Retsky to be very capable, I was disappointed that he didn't stop by after the procedure to see if I had any questions or concerns. I was told he went home.

He was absolutely great!

Dr. Retsky is a fantastic doctor who will always have your best interests in mind. He is a very experienced doctor and I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Retsky listens well and doesn't rush you as you explain your issues and ask questions. He personally calls to check up on you at the end of the day after a procedure. That is rare these days. He is knowledgeable, kind and one of the best doctors I've seen in recent years. His nurses are responsive and caring also. All very good.

Excellent, completely thorough, knowledgeable, compassionate. Probably saved my life.

Dr. Retsky has treated me, my husband, and other family members for a number of years. He is extremely skilled- our colonoscopies and endoscopes are smooth sailing, he responds to our calls quickly, and he knows his stuff! . We all have complete faith in his judgment.

Ive been a patient for over 2 years and Dr. Retsky and team have been extremely competent, friendly and professional. He was referred to me by a former patient who is also a physician in the North Shore System. Highly recommended.

Dr Retsky's office staff is difficult to deal with. They are not responsive nor caring in their approach with patients. More importantly, they do not follow through with their commitments (eg calling back when they say they will or responding timely to email requests for medical advice). Dr Retsky has a very rough bedside manner and makes you feel like you are bothering him. Both Dr Retsky and his staff totally abandoned me when i needed their support.

Was extremely rude and showed 0 compassion to me in a very painful time. I thought doctors were supposed to help people; not sure why he chose this profession if he was going to act like patients are just a bother to him. Very disappointed.

the best of class------top shelf------my whole family uses him-------even my grown son who is a doctor himself---------he is the extremely well regarded by his peers--------a true gem
