Highly Recommended - Top Hip Doctor in Nashville
Dr. Byrd is very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and has excellent bedside manner. It is very clear why so many go to here, and he has helped many professional well known athletes in their injuries and recoveries. He talked through my injury with me, offering both conservative and surgical options for my type of injury. I shared my preference to try conservative non-surgical methods first, and Dr. Byrd was very reasonable and talked through the pros and cons of each, and what the next steps might look like trying a conservative method first. I felt fully supported, and am very pleased with my visits here and positive outcome after completing PT. Their PT team, technologies, and facilities are top notch, and they were able to help me successfully recover with conservative treatment. If you have any kind of hip injury, I cannot recommended Nashville Hip Institute, Dr. Byrd and the PT team high enough! If you are looking for the best in Nashville, you've found them here!

Trustworthy
I travel 5 hours to have Dr. Byrd as my surgeon. He repaired my right hip in Aug of 2022 and will be repairing my left hip in 2023. He’s knowledgeable, good bedside manner, and honest. His staff are a blessing and have the surgical routine down to a science making it stress free for patience who travel in from out of town. Because I think it may help potential patients make a decision, I want to add that I am a 47 year old female that participates in competitive obstacle course races. Dr. Byrd has been thorough and honest about what to expect. The recovery from surgery one has gone far better than I expected. I hope the same for surgery two. Either way, I wouldn’t trust anyone else. If there’s a chance I will run again, he’s the surgeon to get me there.

I saw Dr. Byrd for right hip and buttock pain after back surgery. He took x-rays in the office. He told me that there was nothing wrong despite pain that significantly limited my ability to function. He promotes himself as a hip specialist. I just had a total hip replacement and release of a buttock muscle that was causing buttock pain. I am just about 2 weeks post-op and feel much better than before surgery and the buttock pain is completely resolved. He totally missed both diagnoses.

His best days are behind him. We traveled a great distance to meet an arrogant and insensitive professional that demonstrated very little interest in his patient. Most importantly, he was WRONG!!

Dr Byrd was not helpful at all... I have had 2 previous hip surgeries and he was not willing to take the time to figure out my hip pain. He wasted 9 months of my time then referred me to another physician saying "I don't know everything". His office is a disorganized mess and they never call you back on any question or problem you have.

Dr. Byrd is a classic southern gentleman with a most professional demeanor. He is an expert in hip pathology and it is obvious that he has a great realm of both knowledge and experience. Dr. Byrd speaks very thoughtfully and it is clear that he is a man of great wisdom. I highly recommend Dr. Byrd and his staff for hip problems including the most complicated and/or uncommon issues.

Worst medical facility I have seen. Poor communication and dis-organized. Was hoping to have both my hips repaired by this doctor because he has the experience and good reputation. Can't understand why I wasn't able to take advantage of this, maybe because I am a Veteran and they didn't want to deal with the VA. I thought everything was going well but I haven't heard from them in 7 months and they will never return my calls. They have even hung up on me when I called.

Dr. Byrd and his staff are extremely efficient and professional. I cannot describe how happy I have been with Nashville Sports Medicine. Dr. Byrd performed a revision surgery after a prior surgery did not go as planned. It has been a fantastic experience (considering the circumstances) and I highly recommend his office. You will be in great, humble, gentle hands.

From start to finish - I could not be happier with my results. Dr. Byrd is my hero - and his staff are top notch! I was in miserable pain with a tear in the cartridge around my hip and other complications before my surgery - and I am now pain free.

Dr. Byrd is the best. He diagnosed my FAI when 2 other doctors had missed it. He was able to correct the problem arthroscopically and basically saved me from hip replacement. 4 years later, I'm still pain free and doing the things I love. Well worth the trip from out of town to see Dr. Byrd. So knowledgeable, kind and informative. His entire staff is super, including his PT department. For those needing help with a hip problem, this is an easy choice.

I am so totally impressed with Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Byrd, Erica and the rest of the nurses and staff both in the office and at St. Thomas Surgery Center. They made traveling in from out of town multiple times as easy and efficient as possible. For a world class team, they're also the most humble, caring and kind group of medical professionals I've ever seen. I'm so pleased w the care I received and would highly recommend. Absolutely worth the travel and wait time to get in to see them.

I first saw Dr Byrd after a horse accident 18 years ago with a torn meniscus. I believe this man truly loves and cares about his patients. He is always delightful and such a pleasure to see at a time when health care has really become more about business and not so much about people. I am greatful for him and his delightful staff. They are very professional and caring.
