Kind, Caring, Communicative Doctor
My 93-year-old mother is currently under comfort care (rather than curative care) at Faulkner Hospital. Dr. Halporn has been in regular communication with my siblings and me, and even had us neet with his team and him for more than an hour about mom's treatment trajectory and hospice. Communication from his team and him was clear, frank, and gentle. After my family opted for curative care, the nursing staff placed butterflies on my mom's door to denote my mom's spiritual transition toward death. We were given a recliner and snacks as we wait for my mom to die. I am very thankful for the kind concern, clear communication, and gentle care received from Dr. Halporn, Dr. Surya, and the wonderful team of nurses and others at Faulkner. It's a very stark difference from my experience with my father's death at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Disappointment to the field of Palliative Care
My father was inpatient at Faulkner Hospital with metastatic pancreatic cancer. He was seen by Dr. Halporn during one of his inpatient admissions there. I am myself a palliative care physician and I am extremely disappointed in the care he received by Dr. Halporn. He did not call back despite numerous requests to have him reach out to me and also blocked his note from being seen. My father gave him permission to speak to me so this was not the issue. I hope he is able to be a more responsive provider in the future as I cannot express the frustration, embarrassment and disappointment he caused my field of medicine. I hope he is able to learn from this and do better in the future.
