Dr. Hovanesian was the first doctor I saw when I began to experience blurry vision. He had his assistant do an eye exam and told me nothing was wrong, except for allergies and some dry eye. He just told me to take Systane eye drops. I continued to drive my vehicle and perform every day tasks with blurry vision. Finally, after six years and my vision getting worse, I finally made an appointment with an optometrist who diagnosed me with nearsightedness and prescribed eye glasses. My vision was suddenly perfect now. There's no rational excuse for Hovanesian not to have caught this, when he performed the same eye exam six years prior.

Paid Consultant, Not an Practicing Opthalmologist
When you visit Dr. Hovanesian, you’ll get the impression that he’s there to sell you a “premium lens” and your eye health doesn’t factor into the equation. Well, you’d be right. Stay clear of this man. Do your research. You’ll find many ophthalmologists who have a passion for what they do and to others, it’s just a career/job. To Dr. Hovanesian, it’s neither. Do your research and you’ll find that he’s not only a paid consultant (nothing wrong with that if someone is ethical enough to manage the inherent conflicts of interest which he is definitely not), he lectures on profitability of practices in areas such as sustainability, product selection (how to up-sell patients), and how to avoid malpractice lawsuits. It would seem logical that the best way to avoid malpractice lawsuits is to not engage in malpractice. Apparently, he’s found a way around that. Do a little more research and you’ll find he spends most of his efforts and earns most of his income from lecturing on these subjects.

Cataract surgery – Jul 26, 2022

Had eye laser surgery, was not told truth about what to expect and what did happen, was told I’d be driving in 5 days, it was more than 3 months. When I asked if I had-an unusual reaction to that procedure, I was told by Dr. Hovanesian No, when I asked why I wasn’t given the correct information He said than no would get the surgery. That my last visit to this office.

Botched a routine cataract surgery, which required this doctor to perform a second surgery to replace the lens implant with a new one. The lens replacement did not go well with discomfort and poor vision. Would not recommend this ophthalmologist.

The world is brighter and colors more vivid since having cataract surgery with Dr. Hovanesian. I am now able to read road signs while driving without using glasses, even better than when I used glasses prior to surgery. Dr. Hovanesian not only performed successful surgery, he was concerned with my comfort during and after the surgeries. I recommend Dr. Hovanesian and Harvard Eye Associates to others looking for an eye health care home.

Dr. Hovanesian is a highly skilled doctor and surgeon, and have had a couple operations with him and truly cares for his patients. I first went to Dr Hovanesian when my eye was being pushed upwards and after meeting with multiple doctors who were providing wrong diagnosis, he was the only one who correctly diagnosed with urgency and recommendations. He takes time and cares about his patients which makes him different than many doctors.

I feel like Dr. H is qualified. However, 10 minutes into our appointment, he stood up signaling that it was over before I could even ask questions. And he was recommending surgery! Felt very rushed. So disappointed.

My husband had 4 Pterygiums taken off with Dr. Hovanesian. He was wonderful! We did 3 other consultations and Dr. H was by far the most informative, polite, helpful option. We live about 9 hours North of Dr. H and the extra drive was well worth the excellent customer service that we received! We have since been in contact with Dr. H and he is always willing to answer our questions.

Dr. Hovanesian is more interested in making money & rushing patients than in serving them. He's disinterested in patient questions & concerns. Staff is rude, arrogant & dense. Patients are not even greeted upon appointment arrival. After front desk sign-in no one even looks up to acknowledge awareness of your arrival. This total lack of reception leaves you wondering if doctors at Harvard Eye are even going to see you. Technicians have a very negative attitude & do not even tell you their name.
