Miracle Worker
Met this doctor only 3 minutes ever. In 2007, I arrived at the Iowa Memorial ER at 10pm with symptoms of Cauda Equina, an emergency. He arrived at 11pm, met me at 1130 with MRI told me I needed surgery and I was in the OR by 1am. He performed a laminectomy, and saved me from lower paralysis. Had he not acted so fast it came in the AM, I would have had permanent disability. He was amazing whole facility worked like clockwork.

I first met Dr. Piper in 2004 when I had an emergency disc surgery. In 2006, due to degenerative disc disease, I required another surgery on the same disk. I have had chronic pain as a result if nerve damage from the 2004 injury. After seeing a pain management doctor for several years, It was Dr. Piper who encouraged me to get off king term opioids and attempt physical therapy m which over several years has improved my pain. Dr. Piper performed three other spinal/cervical surgeries because of the DDD condition. He is the best surgeon one could ask for. He is highly skilled, remarkably kind, and thoroughly explained all myoptions and the associated risks. He did a fine job with each surgery that resolved each issue. With my cervical fusion, he continued to follow uo with me for 18 months to verify good bone healing. I trust him completely!

After a diagnosis of a Pars Fracture I saw three surgeons to get opinions. I had a few issues that made thing difficult for us. I found Dr. Piper was the only one who took time to look at each issue and devise a solution that was the most effective. I can tell you my first thoughts as we started to discuss things were not positive of him. Once I under stood he was already thinking out in front of the conversation. He's a process person and you have to trust him. I glad I did, Thank You.

Dr Piper did a lower back surgery on me just over a year ago. I had fantastic results and very little scaring. Dr Piper has sat and listened to my concerns and addressed every one of them as presented. He is very good at answering questions and taking patient's view points into consideration. I would send any family or friend to him without question.

I think Dr Pipers is a excellent surgeon. I had two surgeries with him and both I recovered well. My scares are barely visible. He does not take recommendations from his patients. I got two other surgeons opinions and they recommended 2 level cervical fusion. I went with Dr.Piper recommendation and only did one. Within 3 months of surgery I was back in pain and had facet block on C7 it was the level that was causing most or maybe all of my pain. I have to now and go back to fix that level.

I felt that Dr. Piper was already on to his next patient when he was with me. He took very little time explaining what was going on and seemed impatient while listening to me. He did not take the time to answer all my questions. I was not impressed and would not refer him to anyone I know.

Went to see him when under work comp, due to neck pain, scapula pain, pain down arms, wrist & hand pain with numbness, tingling & lack of sensation. He was absolutely rude and obnoxious! Interrupted me when I tried to speak or ask a question. Raised his voice at me & my husband when he couldn't sit & be quiet anymore. Chances are some of this may have been because I was there for WC. I wouldn't go see him again if he was the last surgeon available. Btw initial WC hearing came down in my favor.
