He has good bedside manners but is a terrible surgeon! I had a heart attack (after taking the covid vaccine) & an impella device was implanted in my heart for a short time. When he removed it, he stitched the main artery to my right arm CLOSED! I was discharged & spent 3 weeks in agony. My right hand felt like I had extreme frost bite. Finally, after I eventually convinced him something WAS terribly wrong, he went back in to *fix* his mistake & in the process, he completely severed my brachial plexus nerves!! I am now permanently disabled! I have no feeling or control of my right arm/hand & I'm in constant pain! I'm right-handed by the way. You have no idea just how MUCH you use your dominant hand until you no longer have any function of it. At my next appointment, I asked him if I'd ever regain use of my hand/arm again & he looked me in my face & said "probably not" & giggled. GIGGLED! My husband & I were in utter disbelief. I was crying uncontrollably & left. BEWARE!

When he removed it, he stitched the main artery to my right arm CLOSED! I was discharged & spent 3 weeks in agony. My right hand felt like I had extreme frost bite constantly. Finally, after I eventually convinced him something was terribly wrong, he went back in to *fix* his mistake (I never should've let that man touch me again, but everyone makes mistakes & I'm a very forgiving person) & in the process, he completely severed my brachial plexus nerves!! I am now permanently disabled!! I have no feeling or control of my right arm/hand & I'm in constant pain! I'm right-handed by the way. You have no idea just how MUCH you use your dominant hand until you no longer have any function of it. At my last appointment, I asked him if I'd ever regain use of my hand/arm again & he looked me in my eyes & said "probably not".... then he giggled. GIGGLED! My husband & I looked at each other in utter disbelief! I was crying uncontrollably & left his office. Think twice before you decide to let this man operate on you!!!

I have known Dr Mena professionally for many years. I recently had a friend in urgent need of bypass surgery. Despite the complications Covid has imposed on the health care system, he was able to find a way to schedule his surgery. My friend and his wife absolutely fell in love with his bedside manner and expertise. Thank you Jose for saving a friend. I know you do it every day, but this was personal. All the best.

Dr. Mena saved my life. I love him. My surgery went well. I healed so easily even though I am a Diabetic. My scar is perfectly straight and I was able to return to work as an RN after 60 days. I feel amazing. His bedside manner is fantastic. Anyone who has him as a physician is blessed. He truly has the hands of an angel.

For the very first time in my life (43 yrs) I have met a doctor who's bedside manner is PHENOMENAL!! Dr. Mena's true care and concern for his patients is out of this world. It's unfortunate I have to see a Vascular surgeon but I THANK GOD I am seeing the BEST that Ochsner has!

Dr. Mena provided excellent care. Without Dr. Mena's excellent care and service i would not have survived getting shot during a car jacking. He was able to replace a major artery and vein perfectly. My recovery time was far less than was expected as well.

I went into hospital with what I thought was pneumonia, while in the ER I had a heart attack. Dr., Mena performed 5 bypasses. He was caring & has a great bedside manner. Answered all of my questions, gave me all the information regarding my condition and what needed to be done and checked on me regularly before and after surgery, even late at night. I would highly recommend him as I feel he goes above and beyond his responsibilities before, during & after surgery.
