Dr. Hsu practices a brand of medicine that is rapidly disappearing. He takes time to listen, asks important questions and is very digent about health maintenence. He's interested in family history and routinely asks pertenent questions about social/psychological issues in addition to detailed questions about physical issues. He will be sorely missed when he retires.

He lacks empathy. He did not have tests performed to properly diagnosis the patient. He did not refer the patient to specialists that were needed for proper diagnosis and care. It is important for a physician to be able to admit when he/she is not educated enough to properly handle the patient's care.

Approximately a year ago, I began noticing signs of memory problems along with some mild parkinson-like symptoms (e.g., drop foot) in my father. Dr. Hsu said these were not significant concerns. I subsequently had my father evaluated at both UCLA and USF, and both places confirmed a diagnosis of lewy body dementia. He then took my father off of his blood thinner medication, which caused him to developed bilateral blood clots in his lungs that nearly killed him over the Christmas holiday.
