I love Dr Hiatt's pre- and post-op "check-in" emails. The self evaluation health questions and educational information prepared me for surgery and supported my recovery process. Dr Hiatt was patient and answered all my pre-op questions thoroughly and without making me feel that I was taking too much time. When I had some unexpected nerve activity after surgery, he suggested that it should resolve on its own but that he was willing to order imaging if that would make me feel more comfortable. The goal of my surgery was to alleviate back pain from scoliosis, lordosis, sagittal imbalance and two herniated disks as well as hip pain from mild osteoarthritis and the mechanical misalignment of my spine. It's been only 10 days since the two stage surgery but I am pleased with the outcome so far. I am walking upright, the sagittal imbalance is corrected and my hip pain is resolved. Overall I'm pleased with the care I received from Dr Hiatt's office and staff and would recommend them in the fut

Dr. H. was so compassionate and considerate of my needs. He also has such a down-to-earth bedside manner. He doesn't walk into the room with an arrogance that many doctors have. I like his honesty and his '...if I was your..............family member' response to my question as to his solution...Really like you Dr. Hiatt.

I was referred to Dr. Hiatt by his partner, as Dr. Hiatt specializes as a Revisionist, meaning he cares for patients who have already had surgical back procedures. He's thorough and caring, and did my first revision back surgery two weeks ago.

Included a last minute consultation from Dr. Smith to Dr. Hiatt. He was about to leave the office. This visit resulted in a major back surgery. The original surgery was scheduled on a Wed in am. Due to circumstances it was postponed to the next day as a fit in surgery after his office hours. The surgery was 8 pm to 11:30 pm. Visit to me everyday during 6 day stay. He is wonderful and gives a thorough explaination each visit. Plus gives time of questions

I have received excellent care from my doctor and his office staff, particularly Marcella, has been very quick to respond to any questions or concerns I have. I was very impressed how Dr. Hiatt would check on me daily at the hospital even when he had to drive far away to do surgery that same day. He explains things clearly and takes the time to answer your questions. I had no fear about surgery as I trusted in his abilities, however, most of my fears were more to do with recovery. I would highly recommend him to other people needing surgery.

My experience was unfortunately not a positive one at all. One night ended up as three nights due to complications with a hematoma, a dural tear with a CSF leak and that was only for starters. I have a very painful incision/scar that needs to be surgically removed/repaired and permanent nerve damage and numbness/discomfort all the way up to my jawline and the list goes on here that includes my radicalapathy, high pain level and radiating pain on the left side of my face/temple behind my eye as a direct result of this surgery. I had no pre-existing health conditions to speak of going into this surgery other than my cervical spine issues. Do your due diligence in research and ask a lot of verifiable questions of this surgeon in advance, including requesting actual patient references. Be vigilant in obtaining multiple expert opinions before moving forward with a disc replacement and especially if you have any pre-existing facet joint issues, spondylolisthesis or a kyphosis.

I had resisted any kind of surgery and wanted nothing to do with it. My pain became increasingly unbearable and was forced to give in. Dr. Hiatt was recommended from my primary Doctor. I am more than thrilled with the outcome and I am only 10 days out of hospital. He was very proffessional, knowledgable and very informative. All questions were addressed to my satisfaction. I have already been spreading the good news that one does not have to drive to the Bay Area to find an excellent surgeon. Right here close to home is Sierra Spine Institute! Amazing --Who knew?
