I saw Dr. Michael Charness at the music clinic at Brigham and Women’s for hand pain. My appointment was beyond a joke, this doctor was smug and offered no substance. I came to get expert medical treatment and left with what amounted to a handout that could be summed up by saying “if it hurts, don’t do it” and worse pain than I came with, that I am still recovering from after manual hand tests. I could not ever recommend this to any serious musician. Literally, run, do not walk, from this department. I can’t speak to the other clinicians. The check-in was also inappropriate. My visit was a surreal nightmare. Under no circumstances should musicians seek care from this physician, and perhaps from this clinic.
