nerve damage follow up
Well this is a follow-up of a carpal tunnel syndrome that still exist after the operation. Dr Richard is going to investigate further and get to the bottom of this no doubt. Couldn't recommend him highly enough and he is very amiable in his bedside manner. Explains everything very clearly which is very much appreciated.

May be an excellent surgeon. But he is a zero as a human being. Patients getting surgery are not just pieces of meat to be cut up. With no emotions or feelings. I know patients who tried very hard to improve their health. Through exercise and PT. But almighty Richard responded by insults calling elderly who just had painful surgery months before “out of shape “. Sad that he believes we are just machines expected to bounce back. Rude , condescending and discouraging to patients.

He cured me!
After 20 years getting shots around my neck in another city, I’m shot free and have my life back. He re-diagnosed me and was correct. I followed his recommendations for rehab and I’m now cured!

Very pleased. Explained optiond
Staff was extremely courteous.. X-ray tech quick and courteous. P.A explained condition and reviewed X-ray in detail. Dr. Richard spent time detailing my condition as well as iptions. Unfortunately I was not a candidate for surgery due to age and severity of multiple curves

My family member was hospitalized and Dr. Richard was his doctor, He was rude, didn't answer questions, so since I am a nurse practitioner I explained to the doctor what was concerning my family member and he relied to me "please shut up". Horrible representation of the medical profession. He needs to recognize that people are scared and anxious to be in the hospital. Kindness and compassion is what people need not a god-like persona

Dr. Shaw on October 11, 2023 operated on me for the third fourth fifth and sixth vertebrae in my neck. Tell me I’d be up and running and driving within a week that I’d go home the same day well I didn’t go home the same day they operated on me never put a collar on me and I went to Lely Palm’s because they said I needed just a little rehab went to Lely Palm’s And I was walking a little bit on the 13th the 14th the 15th kind of slowed down the 16th I was not feeling good the 17th. I could not urinate for 10 hours. I was rushed to the emergency room of NCH and was catheterized. I had another MRI the MRI then doctor in the hospital called Dr. Richard And he said his PA the PA said oh there’s nothing wrong. The doctor said no I’m not gonna sign off on this so Dr. Richards came down at 5 o’clock after surgery looked at me now. I had a problem with a nervous condition and he said to me did you always shake like that? I said I’ve been in your office 34 times and told you I have clonus turns around he said well we can do one of two things we can either wait it out or we can go back in and rinse the hardware off and put it back in. I said we’re going back in. We went back in at 6 o’clock at night on the 18th one week from the first surgery came out of the surgery with a collar and I was paralyzed. Had to learn to feed myself move my legs. I am now in a wheelchair for life Turns around month later my daughter reads the his papers and it turned out. I had a hematoma I would’ve died if I didn’t go back in and have that operation I went to Lely Palm’s on October 31 with a collar a catheter couldn’t move my legs very much couldn’t feed myself. I was in Lely Palm’s for five months. I had a catheter in me for 4 1/2 months from UTI to UTI I had ended up having a a seizure as I entered physician regional in the hallway did not know I had a seizure and it was from low sodium from them not cleaning me having diarrhea having a catheter and some of this was due to the operation, which she never told me About at this point and it’s a year and two months. I am in a wheelchair. I am not driving. I have Home health care for seven days a week cannot hardly make anything. Can’t cook for myself my hands or are are how can I say? Maybe a little paralyzed can’t graft a few things so. I would be very careful on what this doctor says because he told me I’d be up walking driving within a few weeks and every time I would they would call to say you have an appointment. I said I’m in Lely Palm’s. I will see you after you get out of Lely Palm’s. I was in Lely Palm’s for five months. I will tell you legally Palm’s was good. But you have to also be very careful on making sure you tell if there’s something that you don’t like if I was like any other person that went through this I would’ve definitely done a lawsuit, but I’m not I’m getting good care from the people that have my insurance And have my back and that is Hope Pace all inclusive medical insurance for low income, Medicare Medicaid and they pay self-pay I speak very highly of Hope Pace for low income Medicare Medicaid and their self-pay fantastic people clinic doctors. If you would ask me if I would recommend Dr. Richards, I would have to say if you wanna go to I’m fine but be very careful make sure you ask all your questions because he’ll only answer them one and he will tell you I already answered that question

Patient
Two of Naples’ top neurosurgeons and my PCP recommended Dr. Richard to perform my MAJOR spinal operation. Other surgeons refused to tackle my complicated problems; unable to walk at all within a month’s time, a calcified disk had shut down the nerves in my spinal cord, and I needed old fusions removed and a newer, longer one installed. The operation lasted ten hours, and one of the anesthesiologists told me the next morning that Dr. Richard sat down and worked for EIGHT straight hours without leaving. Then he and his PA, Blake, came in to see me every day for eight days in the hospital. He is a GENIUS. I’ve been told by doctors, nurses, techs, physical therapists that my surgery was the most difficult they’d seen. So if you’re looking for warm and fuzzy & a new friend, find someone else. Understand before visiting that he will tell you exactly what he thinks, even if unwelcome, harsh. I trusted that he’d fix me, and I am walking again, though other practitioners said I never would.

Excellent listener and smart doctor
I recently met with Dr Richards and found him to be a delight and confident. I have never met a doctor that was so vested in my issues, except for Dr Roth, Kandel, Gerber, Sharma and Pollock. Dr Richards is very detailed oriented, listens completely to your issues & comes up with a very specific plan for you to follow & alleviate your pain. He is very open to all your questions & very patient while you ask them. I go in with a notebook filled with questions, for every visitI would recommend him highly and you won’t be disappointed. if for some reason, you are not pleased with him, just asked to speak to his supervisor.Good Luck !!!!

Dr Richard has performed a total of four surgeries at different places on my spine over the past few years. He is a world-class surgeon! Extremely bright talented and would trust him with another surgery ia heartbeat if ever needed. If you’re looking for one of the best surgeons in the state, others have made comments about his personality… He is to the point and very confident. I respect him for being true to who he is.
