Disappeared
I was so disappointed with the Dr. Tobin disappearance and now years later hearing that he had opened up his own practice in Cary without leaving any notice with his patients that he was leaving. My parents are in their late 70s/early 80s and were left without a doctor as the previous review said until they could replace him 6 months from the time he left. I agree with prior reviews that this was abandoning the patient as protocol says patients must be informed and given ample time to find a new doctor. No such notification was made. I’ve been in medicine a long time and have never seen this happen in such an abrupt way. I was put in position of managing their care until I could find them a new doctor several months later after my mom ended up in the hospital. I’d be curious to know if this was an error on the clinic side or his side. That being said, my parents adored him so it’s hard to imagine him doing that. But if he did, so disappointing. Again, curious to say the least.

Where'd He Go?
We loved Dr. Tobin, but one day he just wasn't there anymore. The staff wouldn't say why, where he went, if he was ill or even had passed away. No notice was given, no letter sent. I worked in the medical field for 30 years & I've never witnessed this. Normally, a letter would have been sent months prior to inform the patients that their doctor was moving and assuring them that they would still be cared for within the practice. Instead, we've been informed, only when we've called the clinic ourselves, that they're hiring a Dr. in the fall to take Dr. Tobin's patients (6 months from now) & in the meantime, they'll try to work us in only in the case of an urgent issue. I think that "abandoning a patient" is still against medical code, if not the law. Now I find that Dr. Tobin has opened a practice in Cary, still with UNC. Why couldn't they have just told us ahead of time that he was moving & given us time to decide to stay with the practice, go with him to Cary or find another provider?

I arrived 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment to complete insurance and medical history forms (so as not to keep the doctor waiting), I waited nearly an hour and watched the patients in the waiting room turn over twice before getting up and walking out. Despite informing the receptionist that I had been waiting for an excessive aount of time, I received only a half-hearted apology for the delay. As a business man, my time is as valuable as the physician's.

About Me

care philosophy

I went into medicine because it was a blend of science, art and communication. I love to learn and to teach. I have a style of medicine that involves a lot of direct communication and building a strong relationship with my patients. Outside of work I enjoy running, cooking and playing the trumpet.
