Dr. Louis
I was seen by Dr. Louis in 2022 for a skull base tumor. Dr. Louis advised that surgical resection was not possible due to the location of the tumor and recommended radiation based on his opinion that the tumor was benign. I received a second opinion at UCSD where their review of the imaging showed the tumor to be Chondrosarcoma. I had endoscopic endonasal surgery at UCSD in which the surgeon achieved gross total resection with no complications or new neurological deficits. My issue is not that Dr. Louis was not comfortable doing surgery, but that he gave the impression that no neurosurgeon would be able operate. He also displayed a lack of knowledge of the possibility of more rare lesions such as skull base chondrosarcoma and was not familiar with the characteristics on the imaging that led other doctors to diagnose chondrosarcoma which called for a more aggressive treatment approach. Dr. Louis needs to recognize the difference between "I can't do surgery" and "No one can do surgery."

I saw Dr Louis for a tumor removal, which was below my Optic nerves and next to my pituitary gland. I met him and he showed me exactly where it was, how he would go in to remove it. His surgical practice was state of the art and the accuracy at the how he planned to remove the tumor was impressive. I walked away feeling confident . I didnt get the same feeling when I discussed this with other neurosurgeons. The surgery was successful. He asked me to keep him posted on post surgery. I contacted him whenever I had any questions. He always responded right away. I have seen doctors, surgeons at UCLA Medical, Stanford Medical in CA and have never received the level of service and professionalism as I experienced with Dr Louis. The service is what every patient should get. Sadly, doctors like him are rare.

I underwent a craniotomy to remove a meningioma by Dr. Louis in 2017, and felt I could not have had better care by any other neurosurgeon in the world. The tumor, approximately the size of a golf ball, was causing loss of vision in my left eye, was pushing my eye forward and was wrapped around the optic nerve and carotid artery. Dr. Louis used an advanced technology 3D program prior to surgery to most accurately view and assess the location of the tumor, plan the surgery and show my husband and me exactly his plan to remove it. Dr. Louis is a dedicated surgeon who is compassionate and kind and willing to take the time to answer any questions we had prior to and after surgery. He demonstrated that he is a patient-centered physician who wants the absolute best for his patients. I trust him wholeheartedly.

I had recently been diagnosed with a brain aneurysms. I was dealing with a lot of anxiety, so scared and uncertain of my health. After the first consultation, I started to feel less stress. Dr. Louis explained in a comforting and professional way, with MRI pictures, how aneurysms would be treated by removal. He used terminology that I could understand. Patience of Gold. I was Dr. Louis’s last surgery of the day. Most surgeons report to the waiting family & friends the results, while the patient is still in recovery, then be on their way. I woke up to Dr. Louis smiling face saying you did great! You can’t beat that! I have now finished all of my follow-up appointments until next February. I would also like to take this opportunity to give kudos to Dr. Louis’s outstanding office staff! They were always so efficient and pleasant. Dr. Louis you are amazing in every way! As you know, I am a 73-year-old woman and I feel you have added years to my life! What a gift! Thank you so much!

I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 1 and was referred to Dr. Louis for a consult. After he ordered and reviewed my MRI’s , it became clear that I was going to need surgery. Any type of brain surgery is terrifying but Dr. Louis would reiterate that he would take care of me and not to worry. I am now 6 weeks out from surgery and still have a ways to go but I am so glad I am on the other side now. I can be somewhat of a high maintenance patient with my constant questions and research I’ve done on my own about my condition but Dr. Louis never made me feel like I was bothering him and he is very responsive to email. I am so thankful that I met a doctor who wanted to help me .

After 10 years of a spinal stenosis diagnosis, my pain was growing worse and I needed surgery. Multiple friends in the medical industry recommended Dr Robert Louis, and I scheduled an appointment within two weeks of calling his office. We discussed the options, and his recommendation was to fuse three vertebrae. Within a week after surgery, I was able to walk 5 miles a day and within two weeks I was able to walk 8 miles daily. In two months, I returned to my cross fit classes and normal routine. Dr Louis is a kind, caring doctor and a superb surgeon. I am truly grateful to him for the spectacular result and have recommended him to multiple friends.

Dr. Louis is an incredible Surgeon with a matching bedside manor. I was diagnosed with a benign Meningioma and he was able to not only remove it completely, but I now back up and operational just 2 weeks after surgery. I can't say enough about this gentleman, his office staff, the hospital staff and everyone involved in my surgery and recovery. Hands down the best decision I made was going to Dr. Louis for my needs. THANK YOU!

I had a Meningioma tumor pressing on a critical area of my brain affecting my speech. Dr. Louis uses a new 3D technology which shows the tumor in color on all sides. He knew exactly where the tumor was and precisely how to remove before the surgery. He was in the recovery room when I woke up and made morning and evening visits while I was in the hospital. Absolutely wonderful doctor! In addition, his office staff, Miriam, Nicole, and Jeanine are kind and caring.

I highly recommend Dr. Louis. I was diagnosed with severe Chiari Malformation and he did a decompression surgery on me. He did a phenomenal job and I'm feeling much better than before the surgery as I had multiple debilitating symptoms. Not only was he professional, he was sincere, very caring, approachable and friendly. Every interaction with him in the hospital and in his office was great because he shows his patients respect and kindness. I will always be grateful to him.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Louis and his office team at The Brain & Spine Center. He takes time to answer EVERY question I have with patience. He visited me each day in the hospital and even sat and answered all of my families questions as well. He has a youth and energy that makes him easy-going and relatable, but an intelligence and authority that makes you comfortable and at ease. He is sincere, caring, straightforward, attentive, considerate, and even comforting. I highly recommend him!

I came to him for a diagnosis regarding an acoustic neuroma. With no hesitation, he mentioned that I would need an 18 hour surgery with nearly a month in the hospital for recovery and become deaf. He also said my tumor was too large for alternative options. I chose and now my hearing is intact and my tumor has shrunk significantly.

He saved my life!! removed a tumor I had in my pituitary gland and, didn't only take the time to walk me through each step and answer all my questions but he was there every step of the way to answer my calls (even at 2am!). He is amazing!!!! On top of that his office staff is super nice and responsive. I hope I don't have to have another surgery but, if I did, I would have no hesitation to go to him again!

Dr. Louis was very thorough, open, and willing to share all the information he had about our daughter's tumor with out family. He did regular visits with her while in ICU and and when she transferred to 3E. He delivered a difficult message to us regarding her tumor with factual information and a caring smile that gave us confidence in his recommendations and her care! We also did a lot of research on him and he is highly respected throughout the industry for his work. Thank you Dr. Louis!
