Confident and Caring..GREAT SURGEON
I saw Dr Schwartz for what I thought was a hip issue and what he shared with me after my examination, that it was my sacral iliac joint and referred me to Dr Saiz here in Cruces. Another great surgeon I might add. Back to Dr Schwartz… he knows I’d rather be somewhere on a golf course but the meniscal tear was giving lots of pain and discomfort. I went through injections on the knee. Nothing worked long term, finally he suggested surgery to repair the tear and I was more than ready to allow him to fix it. Friday, August 9th I finally had my surgery at Memorial here in cruces. He said he’d try to get me back sooner, if he could by just cutting out the tear, but he wasn’t able to because of the location of the injury and had to put two anchors. I am definitely feeling pain but it’s a good pain, healing pain. Dr Schwartz and his team are TOP NOTCH!!! He is a hard Dr to get to see, however HE is WORTH THE WAIT! No one better in my opinion. You wiill be glad you had to wait to get to him!!

Rotator cuff
I injured my right rotator cuff in 1974. Dr. Schwartz did the necessary surgery to fix my rotator cuff in 2012. He couldn’t believe that I had waited so long! My pain was completely gone, and I have full range of motion, even though Dr. Schwartz warned me I might not because he had to cut out a lot of dead connective tissue. I have several autoimmune diseases including Behcet’s, Ménière’s, MCTD, chronic neutropenia, and more, so I know have problems with all connective tissues. Dr. Schwartz listened to me when I told him I could not have staples because of the Behçet’s. This is a very rare disorder, especially in New Mexico, but he did not belittle me as some doctors have done in the past. He believed me and my rheumatologist, and he used internal stitches. I healed much better than I ever expected!

Went to see Dr Schwartz to remove the hardware from a previous and unnecessary colllar bone surgery. I just wanted the hardware out and that seemed to be a simple enough procedure. He then suggested while he was in there he would shave a quarter inch of the end of the collar bone to give the joint a little more space. I was concerned as I did not want to have another procedure done with a long recovery. He twice said I should be back to normal activity in a month. I researched the procedure online and had questions about the specifics which he was not the most forthcoming with info and almost belittled me for trying to get information online. Anyway in his post surgical notes he contradicts what he said just a few hours earlier during my surgery prep. Long story short, it's been five months and I'm still having discomfort and difficulty just doing normal household and activities. My shoulder is much worse this go around. Surgery is a pass/fail grade and this is a major FAIL!

In the past year, Dr. Robert Schwartz has performed hip and total knee replacement surgeries on me. I would recommend Dr. Schwartz enthusiastically and without reservation. He inspires patient confidence because he takes the time to explain the basis of a diagnosis and the procedures that may be necessary, and he does so in language that can be clearly understood. It was quite remarkable how often hospital personnel--nurses, PTs, OTs, aides, even hospital volunteers--expressed positive comments about Dr. Schwartz' professionalism, personal demeanor, and the good outcomes for his patients. Dr. Schwartz offered me the option of a custom-fitted knee prosthesis. This relatively-new technology facilitates a more accurate placement of the prosthesis and Medicare covers it. Best of all, I am back on the golf course.

I fell and fractured my kneecap and wrist. Dr. Schwartz saw me in the hospital and ordered my care. Surgery was , thankfully, determined not necessary. The care I received was appropriate and successful. Everything healed well with splinting and rehab. Dr Schwartz explained things completely and saw that I progressed well. I recommend Dr Schwartz and his staff. Everyone is very organized and there are no long waits.

Dr. Schwartz saw me when there was concern about a possibly urgent problem following surgery I'd had out of town. He gave a thorough, thoughtful exam, ordered appropriate tests AND called me back promptly with the results. He was interested enough to want to hear what I later learned when I was well enough to travel back to the surgeon for a follow up. Very impressive.
